what are my chances...thanks

oh ap
us history-5
lang. and comp-4
euro-3

i would say you have a marginal chance at berkeley and ucla. ucsd looks to be a match or a slight reach. UCSB...i think your pretty safe. but i am applying just like you so...best of luck.

ucla/ucb--big reach
ucsd-slight reach
ucsb-match

UCSD's average admit uc gpa is well over a 4.0 and their average sat is about a 1950 single sitting. This would meen that UCSD would fall somewhere around a slight reach-reach. I think your odds of getting into UCSD, UCLA, and UC Berkeley are pretty slim. However, you do have a shot. I think you are a match for UCSB.

UCB/UCLA: Reach-Big Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach-Reach
UCSB: Match

I don't think ucsd is a reach. i went to boys state, which is somewhat prestigious, I am an eagle scout, captain of football and volleyball, have over 300 hours of community service, and have above average sat and sat II scores. also, a 3.7 is .3 lower than a 4.0 (4.0 is average at ucsd, 4.1 at ucla and berkeley) i think my good ecs and above average test scores will get me into ucsd...at least i hope. i wouldn't say ucla is a big reach, as my test scores are above average there (barely). i have a small, small chance, but it certainly isn't a big reach.

any other opinions?!?!

*** is a uc GPA? is that weighted unweighted

UC focuses on gpa more than other factors, such as the SAT score. Although yes..3.67 is about 0.3 lower than the average, it's actually quite a gap from other competitive applicants. My friend had similar stats like yours and had higher sat score (2200). She applied last year and was accepted by UCI and UCD (but not UCLA and UCB). For UCLA and UCB, they actually weight their essays more than other stuff on the application, so you need to distinquish yourself on the essay if you really want to get in.

UCSD focuses heavilly on GPA. Their average admit has a 4.04 GPA, you have a 3.67 UC GPA. You are almost .4 away from their average. Yes your SAT is slightly above their average admit of around 1940, but not likely enough to make up for the GPA difference. if you disagree with me, i deffiantly respect your opinion, however the stats state otherwise. You are somewhere in between a slight reach and a reach for UCSD. Your test scores (GRE) are about average for UCLA, not better. UCLA's average admit SAT is about a 2040 and a UC GPA of 4.12. UCLA is a reach. Im not trying to be negative to you, i have no reason to be. But i feel you have incorrect assumptions about your chances at schools like UCSD/UCLA. They are difficult to get into to, and a 3.67 UC GPA usually doesnt make the cut, especially when your SAT is around their average for an admit or just slight above in the case of UCSD. Berkeley's average admit UC GPA by the way is a 4.17. Of course shoot for the top UC's, but be realistic in your hopes. Make sure you apply to mid tier UC's (UCI/UCSB/UCD) as they look more realistic. Best of luck!

SEXYSADIE:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB/UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safe Match

i don't think ucla and ucb by any means are close. I think they are way out of reach. But ucsd, i think is within grasp. My extracurriculars, which carry some amount of weight, will help me with their point system. They're not like amazing, but how many applicants are captain of a football and volleyball team, a boys state delegate, an eagle scout, have 300+ service hours, and president of a church group. No, i havn't cured cancer, but i think i have distinguishable ecs. i am hoping they can maybe close the gpa gap for ucsd and i. ucla's average sat reasoning was a 2010 and berkeley was a 2025. The average sat II for ucla were highest, 735 average, and lowest 680. I am barely above average for both, and a 100 pts above ucsd. I am hoping my above average sat and ecs will close the gpa gap for ucsd. As far as ucla, i don't think i have that high of a shot, maybe 15-25% if that. basically you misunderstood my previous post. oh yeah, a 100 pts. higher on the sat is not slightly higher than average.

ucchris:
when it comes down to it, although you may have experience, you are not on the admissions board. i value your opinion and thank you for your input, but i disagree with your estimation of my chances at ucsd. i do not think it is a reach.

let me difuse the animosity. sexysadie, you have a shot, as small or as big as it may be, you still have a shot. I would actually tend to agree with you on your chances at ucsd. i think you are somewhat of a match, or a slight, slight reach. ucla and ucb are still out of reach, but who knows, your essays could put you over, as they do approach the application with a holistic view. You've already applied, and there is no reason to second guess yourself. i hope you get into wherever you please! good luck. oh yeah, flopsy is a cc whore. the guy has like 6,500 posts. don't doubt his experience. ucchris is just a moron. j/k. haha.

I hear boys/girls state gives you an edge because it's often so rare; I'm a girls stater myself. Helped on the re-elect campaign too. From my friends that are currently attending UCSD and UCLA, UCLA is possible because of your impressive ECs, but SD is more likely. It could be the GPA. I think it comes down to how impressive your essay is. Hope this helps.

If you wrote good essays, you're in.

"ucchris:

I didnt say that UCSD was a reach, i said a slight reach-reach. UCSD with your high SAT is probably closer to a slight reach. But who knows, you have a significantly higher SAT than their average admit, i just havent seen many people get in with a 3.67 uc gpa. Usually i wouldnt think +94 points on SAT would make up almost -.4 GPA points. But UCSD does have their points formula and i know ec's are important and you deffiantly have a lot of impressive ec's. Hopefully you will be right and you get in. Best of luck and no hard feelings!

It's true that GPA is the most important admission factor, but I think that if you write a great essay, then you have a decent shot at all those schools.

thanks for your pity everybody...and the input.

Sexysadie, assuming your a CA resident:
UCLA/CAL: Safety
UCSD: Super Safety
UCI: Uber Safety

i know someone who got into ucsd with around a 3.3 and 1200/1600 on the sat's. the only thing he had going for him was his ec's. he didn't get into any uc but ucsd and ucsb if that says anything to you.
