<p>Hey everyone thanks for checking this out. I want to know how are my chances at at the top UC's considering Berkeley, LA, SD, Irvine and Davis</p>

<p>I am south asian (brown) coming from a competitive high school in the East Bay Area of California. I am the farthest thing from a nerd...
Here are my stats. </p>

<p>Although our school doesnt rank I probably fall right at the 5.01% ( i know it sucks, I barely missed out on ELC) so id say im 30/500 </p>

<p>GPA: weighted: 4.35 (uc calculated) unweighted like 3.7</p>

<p>Ap's
Ap Euro (soph year) : 4
Spanish (junior yr) : 4
Biology: (junior yr): 4</p>

<p>SAT: (I am retaking in October for the third time shooting for a 2150 or more. I took ACT once and that was a disaster, i got a 29.)
Also i am retaking sat spanish and doing math IIc in November.</p>

<p>highest sat: 1990--> went down to 1950--> going for 2150+
Sat II: bio 670
spanish 670</p>

<p>I am one of those people who are reserved but secretly talented. In my case this is public speaking and dancing. Unfortunately I am unable to show proof of this with my extracurriculars so I will reveal them in my personal statements.</p>

these were Statistics and General Psychology
I got A's in both of them.</p>

<p>ur ap and sat 2 scores r low...also with only 3 aps from soph-jun and to be able to get a 4.3+ ucweighted gpa may show that the majority of the courses you took were not uc approved or that you only took a few classes...however great gpa!</p>

<p>I can tell by what you have posted that you forgot that the UCs cap your honors/APs/IBs at 8 semester hours, since it impossible to have a 3.7 UW GPA and a 4.35 UC GPA. If your UW GPA of 3.7 is correct, then your UC GPA is somewhere around 4.03. Using this, I estimate your chances as follows:</p>

UCSD: Match to Slight Reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Match
UCSC: Safe Match</p>

if it helps i can post what classes i took and what grades i got. then maybe someone can help calculate my UC gpa.</p>

<p>Ok, here we go--the UCs throw out the PE classes and will not count the drafting/architecture course as one of their core 15 courses. So we throw those out.</p>

<p>Now, let's count up the other courses--all without weighting them</p>

<p>You have 7 As and 5 Bs in your sophomore year--and 10 As in your junior year.</p>

<p>This gives you total grade points of (17 X 4) + (5 x 3) = 68 + 15 = 83. Now since you have more than 8 semester units of honors/APs/IBs, we add 8 points to this number. 83 + 8 = 91. Now since you took 22 courses (17 As plus 5 Bs), we divide 91 by 22 and get 4.136. </p>

<p>This is a very good UC GPA and makes you competitive for UC Berkeley and UCLA, where the average UC GPAs are 4.17 and 4.12 respectively. Your SAT scores are 1990. The averages for admitted students was 2007 at UC Berkeley and 2003 at UCLA last year. So you are competitive here, also.</p>

<p>Now let's look at your SAT IIs. You have 670/670--which is pretty close to the UC Berkeley and UCLA averages, which are probably around 680 or so.</p>

<p>Now you've taken a tough courseload and two community college courses--in which you got As in both--and your grade trend is increasing. Also, you got As in the courses in drafting/architecture that didn't count in the UC GPA. Based upon all of this, I rate your chances as:</p>

<p>UC Berkeley/UCLA/UCSD--Match
UCSB/UCI/UCD--Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM--Safeties</p>

<p>P.S. Notice that your UW GPA is 3.77 for the courses that counted (and 3.81 if you include PE and architecture)--which is why my original estimate was off. If you had told me this, I would have estimated you at a UC GPA of 4.10 to 4.14</p>

<p>yeah your SATs are definitely a problem. i'm from so'cal myself so i'm pretty knowledgeable about UCs. i would say LA or SD is a pretty good match for you. Berkeley might be a bit of a reach, because even tough you have a really good GPA, your test scores don't really reflect upon that, which would make them question the validity of your GPA in the first place. however, with the right major you still might be able to get in.</p>
