Chances to UGA (University of Georgia) Please Help

Hey guys, I’m a junior. I would really like to go this college but lately i’m not very sure if I can get in.

-GPA: 3.7 weighted with 2 AP’s so far. (4 score on both)

  • I take all honor classes with some AP’s. However, I take CP math cause im bad at math.
-Got a 1300 on the new SAT but didn’t take the ACT yet.
-Key club since Freshman year, was on JV short track. 180 Volunteer hours.
-I work about 25+ hours at QuikTrip (Gas Station) to help pay for car insurance and help my parents and save up for my future. (Can I tell them that?)
  • Can I just make my essay stand out? What can I do to improve my chances? Is my GPA too low? Not enough Extra Curricular? Thanks, every reply helps.

Oh yea, I’ve also done 2 dual enrollment courses, but I withdrew from math, and I got a 78 in English 1101… Yea she was harsh even though it’s suppose to be an easy class. Also, can I take the SAT in Senior year and still go to college in time?

Hey, first, don’t be stessed. I’m not an admissions officer, I got in this year, so my opinion isn’t the most credible, but I’m here to help. Here’s what I gathered from thi’s year: UGA is heavily GPA based. I’m assuming you’re in state. Tons of my friends got in with higher GPAs and lower SATs than my friends who hat Higher SAT and lower GPA. Example: me and a couple of my friends had around 3.85-3 95 GPA, 26 on ACT, we were deferred, I was accepted Feburary, friend was accepted RD. Other friend had 1350 on SAT and 3.65 GPA and was rejected.

You’re GPA isn’t bad. But the low amount of AP’s might hurt you. It really depends on your school system too. If you’re coming from a good school system that offers tons of AP classes, that will hurt you.

My advice is to try to take as many AP in senior year (although, don’t stress yourself out. Keep that GPA higher). If you can show a upward trend in grades, that would be good too.

Try to find things to make yourself stand out, but don’t go crazy. Do things because you like it, showing you are passionate makes a difference than resume building.

I can offer you more specifics if you message me. I’m here to help. Wish you the best!

Why would my AP’s matter senior year if thats when the admissions take place? How will they know my AP scores for those classes? Thanks

Your AP classes senior year demonstrate rigor and these classes are included in the transcript your high school sends to UGA. I agree that grades trump AP classes but course rigor matters. UGA asks that you self report your grades, number of AP classes and SAT/ACT scores in their admission application. You can send senior AP results in the summer after the results post, if you wish. Hope this helps some.
