Chances Transfer Columbia, Georgetown, NYU, Penn, Brown

Hi I'm looking to transfer.

I have 2330 SATS (800 V, 780 M, 750 W)
5's on 8 AP tests
780/760 SAT IIs
Got a 3.7 at UVA
Taking a lot of intermediate courses because of AP credit
Do Mock Trial and have campus job

Was pretty involved in high school, lots of leadership, National Merit Scholar, top 1% of my class at a really competitive public school.

I don't want to write out all the details but that gives you a basic idea. I kind of have my heart set on Columbia, I got waitlisted there last year. What are my chacnes for
Columbia
Georgetown
NYU
Penn
Brown

Thanks, I really know nothing about transfering so if you could give me any additional advice I would greatly appreciate it.

What school are you attending now?

UVA

Are you applying to their business schools?

I have the same GPA from Miami and am also applying to Georgetown, Columbia and NYU (stern)

I dont think im going to get in…but you have much better high school stats/SAT scores than me

good luck

Yeah I’m actually not writing the actual school I go to here for privacy purposes (I’m a little paranoid haha) but just know it’s a top 25, really competitive school.

I would probably apply to Stern at NYU if that’s what you meant by are you applying to the business school.

But yeah… so just know 3.7 at top 25 school, 2330 SAT IIs, involved at school

What are my chances at
Columbia
NYU Stern
Brown
Penn
BC

You already mentioned you went to UVA though…
I would say NYU and BC are matches, but the rest are reaches. If you went to Darden, I was just wondering what you don’t like about it.

I don’t go to UVA I said a school that matches the level of the school I go to. I’m a little curious as to why the others are reaches. I got waitlisted at both last year.

And got into Penn.

i think jade just made up UVA and dosent actually go there…its a school similar to UVA

i agree with AoDay…BC is a match and NYU is a high match. rest are low-mid reaches

NYU Stern is so hard to ‘chance’ for because their admissions are so unpredictable. But you’ve got a great shot at it.

I’m confused on why these schools are reaches for jade. She seems to have an extremely good shot at all of them.

Yes. Of the schools Jade is applying to, Columbia, Brown, and UPenn will be the most difficult. However, she will have the best shot of anyone at those schools (except, maybe, the 3.8 from Harvard, but I can’t imagine why he/she would apply to the above schools).

why did you turn down Penn? if you dont mind me asking

i dunno i just thought i would fit better at the school i’m at now. i fit fine but it’s not like i love it at all and i want to move closer to home (i’m from new england). penn doesn’t really solve the problem, its still kind of far from my house in terms of what i’m looking for but im considering applying.

I’m not sure Georgetown would solve the problem, either, then.

I’m just calling them reaches because they are kind of crapshoots. It’s never a sure thing with the Ivies…unless you have connections.

@ AoDay:

What kind of connections are you talking about for the Ivies? Sorry Jade32 for jumping in your thread.

I’m currently a freshman at a 100-ranked liberal arts college. Would it do me good if I had my host father, a Cornell Uni graduate write me a letter of rec or sth?

When I say connections I mean a family alumnus or someone who holds a considerable amount of power. Letters of rec are typically written by your professors, and as a transfer I believe that is stressed even more. I would recommend asking a professor who teaches a course related to your major. You might be able to mention that your host father is a graduate somewhere but you obviously wouldn’t be able to put it under the section that asks where your parents went to college.
