First Generation to go to College

GPA is pretty low =/
SAT is slightly above average; it’s not going to cover for your low GPA

ECs are looking pretty good =D

first generation to go to college would give you some points in the admissions process.

What is your class rank? And what major are you going to apply to?

I think UCLA judges you among your peers from school, whereas other UCs judge you compared to your peers in their applicant pool, so it’s important (I might be wrong!!)

For major, if you apply for engineering or something at Berkeley, I don’t think you would get in. Berkeley engineering is insanely competitive, and for good reason.

How hard is your senior schedule? harder senior schedule looks better
How hard in general are the classes that you’ve taken? Any AP, IB, honors (if AP not offered)?

I’d have to get answers to those questions, but all in all, your academics are so-so, while your ECs are pretty good. However, keep in mind that major weightage is placed on academics so…But Berkeley and UCLA (especially UCLA) follow holistic admissions, so if you have killer essays you could sway them to let you in.

Try to get your SAT up.

hmm well im 26/750
Im planning on applying in to political science/business/film…haha
this year I’m taking 5 ap classes: English Lit, Governement, Econ, French 4, Calc BC
and Junior Year I took 4: English Rhet, US Hist, Biology, Calc AB
and Euro AP Soph year. All my other courses have been Honors as well.

Yeah I dont know how competitive UCB/LA is for polit sci, business, or film. However I do know that UCLA film school is the bomb haha.

Oh, you’re 26/750, that puts you in top 3-4% which means you’re ELC! Congrats your chances of admission just went up by a lot.
