Essays: Pretty good I think. Talked about the tough transition when I moved from Costa Rica, where I was born, to the U.S., and how I gained a respect for diversity and such

I've applied to UCLA, UCSB, and UCSD (I'm out of state)

what are my chances? UCLA's my number one.
which ones are reaches and could I get into better schools? I really have no idea.

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure you’ll get into UCSB and UCSD and you have a great shot at UCLA.

I think you’d be a great candidate for any other top colleges, and especially since the UCs give little to no financial aid to out-of-states, it would definitely be in your benefit too.

I think you’ll get into UCSD and UCSB. But since youre out of state UCLA may be a slight reach. Its hard to tell. G’luck!

I would say slight reach to UCLA (considering you’re OOS)

In at SB + SD

Wow our stats are unbelievably similar, but I’m in-state. Are you applying for engineering?

No. I’m planning on majoring in psychology

In that case you’re in for sure at all except LA. But you still have a chance there too, especially with strong essays.

you are so lucky to live in California!! I live in AZ which gives me no good instate options, so i’m forced to pay a fortune for my college education. I’m considering the honors college at ASU though. I’ve heard it’s a pretty good school… surprisingly…

reach for la but others you should be in

Look, the UCs are tougher for OOS students, but not impossible–as everyone on here seems to indicate.

If you are ranked #1 at your school, and you have a 2050 SAT (from a single sitting) you should be able to get into all the UCs from Arizona, especially with your great SAT IIs and your very active extracurricular schedule–including your 3rd in the state math competition. (Heck, you would even be competitive at Cornell and Penn.)

P.S. As a UCLA grad (MBA), let me welcome you to the Bruin family–since I’m sure you’ll be admitted there. (Hope you can afford the high OOS tuition, since I’m sure you’ll enjoy the university if you decide to attend.)

Thanks Calcruzer  But i’m not sure about affording the tuition. it sucks that it’s so expensive!!
