3.6 UW 9-11
4.2 W 9-11
UC CAPPED: 3.87
UC UNCAPPED: 4.32
SAT 790 Math 680 ERW (1470 total)
ECs: junior data analyst positon, 350+ volunteer hours, NHS, CSF, numerous clubs w/ leadership status, school and club basketball, + more
-gpa does increase each year
-rigorous course load (4 regular classes 9-11)
-solid essays - lots of time and development- talked about that data analyst position in one of my essays
worried my gpa will hold me back because everything else seems to be in order; hopefully they will look at both my course load and gpa in tandem
Although your SAT score is on target, your capped weighted UC GPA is below the 25th percentile based on Freshman stats for 2018. UC’s tend to be very GPA focused so your GPA will definitely have an impact on your chances. The UC’s consider GPA, Test scores, HS course rigor and essays Very important while EC’s are considered important. An upward GPA trend will help but definitely not a solid Match school probably close to a 50/50 chance. Hopefully you applied widely.
Best of luck.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted and not major specific);
UCI: 52.1%
Admissions looks at all grades and HS course rigor but other than UCLA/UCB, the rest of the UC’s do not list the Uncapped weighted GPA admission information for Freshman so in the absence of any specific statistical data for UCI, I am using the capped UC GPA as the basis for your chances.
Average UC capped weighted GPA for UCI enrolled Freshman (CS) 2018 was 4.13 and SAT of 1443. This is the data I am using for reference.
As a statistical data point, my kid was waitlisted (and never cleared) for CS last year with a 4.05 UC capped GPA 1540 SAT. Last year might have been an anomaly though because the year before they let in way too many people.
