Chances- UCLA, Georgetown, and if all goes well, Dartmouth

<p>Hello, I'm sure many of you see plenty of these everyday, but hey, a question is a question all the same.</p>

<p>Here's a bit of background:
I just started my senior year in high school so most of these statistics are from junior year and prior, keep in mind that I'm now enrolled in 6 AP classes and will have an estimated GPA of 5.0 for my Senior year (weighted of course). Additionally, my high school is one of the top rated high schools in my state. And lastly, I'm looking into a political science major. Also, I'm white.</p>

<p>Academics:
Academic GPA (unweighted): 4.0
Academic GPA (weighted): 4.5
Enrolled in Honors or AP classes: yes (straight A's)
In the top 10% of my class. (13 of 733)
SAT: 2050 (will be taking again in November for sure)
-Math: 670
-CR: 690
-Writing: 690
SAT II:
-Chemistry: 760
-US History: 750
(also taking Math level 2 and lit. in October)
No ACT yet (taking in October)</p>

<p>AP Scores:
-World History: 3
-Chemistry: 3
-US History: 5
-English Lang.: 5</p>

<p>Extracurricular:
Played on the JV water polo team for 2 years (captain my second year)
Vice President of my high school's NHS.
Founder and President of the school's Skiing and Snowboarding Club.
Founder and Head of the school's academic boosters organization (an organization which focuses on raising money for my school in a failing economy- focuses solely on getting parent donations).
Founder and Head of the AP Society, which raises money for students who wouldn't be able to pay for AP tests (different from the above in that it focuses on fundrasing with students around campus).
Competing member of my school's academic decathlon team as well as the FBLA competition team (Second place in parliamentary procedures at section level- not impressive, but relevant).
I won't bother to list the clubs I'm a member of, either than competition teams, I don't think that colleges care.
Outside of school, I'm a volunteer for RFB&D, or reading for the blind and dyslexic, which records text books for, well, the blind and dyslexic.</p>

<p>Lastly, my major passion and hobby is hiking, and over the course of my 4 high school years I've done a majority of the famous American hikes (I.E. Mount Whitney, Half Dome, Grand Canyon, working on McKinley)</p>

<p>Right now I have to believe that I'm in the UCSD range (which is my last choice). Beyond that my goal is set at UCLA, which is basically where the bar is set for me. Also in my spectrum are UC Berkley and Boston College. Ideally, and if the stars align, I would like to go to Georgetown or Dartmouth.</p>

<p>Anyway, thank you in advance for any help, and I know that many more factors go into admissions, so this is all just speculation.</p>

<p>I’ll add a list of school I’ll probably apply to. Just for good measure as well as predictions.
UCI (safety)
UCSD (safety)
UCLA
UC Berkley
Boston College
Duke
Northwestern
Brown
Georgetown
Dartmouth
and just for fun:
Princeton
Oxford
Stanford</p>

<p>UCI (safety)
UCSD (safety)
UCLA- match (don’t feel bad if you don’t get in, their admissions are pretty much a crapshot)
UC Berkley -match
Boston College
Duke - match
Northwestern - in
Brown- match
Georgetown - match
Dartmouth - match
and just for fun:
Princeton - reach
Oxford - the English school system is different, so it would be hard to apply considering you haven’t taken any IB courses or exams.
Stanford - low reach</p>

<p>Oh, chance me if you can too. Thanks! <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/771384-chances-several-ucs-promise-return-favor.html[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/771384-chances-several-ucs-promise-return-favor.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>I change my mind, Brown I think would probably be a low reach.</p>

<p>Well, looks like your SATs could use some work. Crank 'em up to at least 2100 ~ 2300. </p>

<p>Plus, you need to get at least a 4 on your APs, otherwise you won’t reap full benefits so might want to work on those too. SAT subject tests seem good and as long as you get a 30+ on the ACT, UCLA should be a feasible choice. </p>

<p>ECs look good–which is just saying they look as good as any kid’s ECs on here, which is saying they’re not bad, which probably doesn’t really help you.</p>

<p>Everybody says this including all the people I turn to for college help: you can make an EC shine much more if you write a fantastic essay about it. Colleges get a long lists of “Founder of__<strong><em>”, “Member of </em></strong><strong><em>" "President of</em></strong>__” every year, so unless you pick a few that really actually changed you, effectively convey that through your essay, then you’d have a chance.</p>

<p>^ Thank you for the advice. My personal statements will most defiantly be about hiking (mountain metaphor, I have found, is a very good topic). Beyond that my two favorite clubs that have effected me are my fundrasing clubs, not only are they linked, but I get the whole community involved, students and parents, so imo its defiantly note worthy. Anyway, keep the responses coming, all feedback is good feedback.</p>

<p>Ivies are not matches for vals with 2300s.</p>

<p>bump, thanks for feedback</p>
