Hey guys! I was wondering how my chances were at these schools

Total GPA: 3.83 out of 4
Academic GPA: 3.75
WGPA:4.4 out of 4.5
UC GPA: 4.08 out of 4.2
Course Rigor: Hardest possible- 3 APs Junior year w/ concurrent enrollment in CC
I am signed up for another 4 APs senior year w/ a CC class as well
Im pretty worried about the Academic GPA ( Im not sure if that is the only GPA they see)and im not sure exactly how much that pulls me down..

SAT 1: M:770 Cr:700 W:700 Essay:9

Im hoping to retake this and get a 2200. If I pull off a 10 on my essay I should get about a 2200 total.

SATIIs: Math:730 Chem:730 UsHist:780
How much do these scores hurt me? I know a lot of the applicants have 750+s....
APs:
Calc AB:5
Stats:5
Chem: 5

ECs:

1st Tech Challenge (200 competitors)

Major: Cornell applied economics management, Chicago Econ, NYU stern business and political economics, UCB UCLA - economics and I know this seems really odd but UCSD, UCDavis and UCR- neuroscience

Again, it seems odd but if you guys could also comment on my chances at an 8 year Med school it would be appreciated. For some reason I cant seem to choose between econ or medicine. I know I would be perfectly happy in either career ( thats why im even bothering with a med program). However, I know that ba/md programs can be harder than Ivies so I was just wondering if you had any thoughts on the matter.
Med Schools:
U. Central Florida
Rochester U
BU med

Colleges:
Cornell
U Chic.
NYU stern
UCBerkeley
UCLA
UCSD
UC Davis
UC Riverside

How do you think Id fare at these universities. Any suggestions to improve my transcript? Out of these which one do you think I should apply to ED/EA?

If can get a 2200+ on the SATs you should be competitive at Cornell, Chicago, and NYU. You have a strong schedule and strong ECs with leadership positions, so you’ve done all the right things.

Be wary of BA/MD programs - they’re still often looked down on professionally.

Thanks for the feed back. I actually did not know that BA/MD programs were looked down upon. Any specific reason for this? Also, additional comments/chances would be appreciated as well. thanks in advance

Cornell- high target/low reach
U Chic.- target
NYU stern-target
UCBerkeley- low target, i’d be very surprised if you didn’t get in
UCLA- same
UCSD- same
UC Davis- in
UC Riverside- in
good luck!!!

A big part of of being professionally respected as a doctor is the maturity factor. Some people express concern that BA/MD programs push out students before they’ve had time to mature sufficiently. Now, I’m not claiming to be an expert on medical education - I could be off base, I’m just telling you what I have heard from the med students I know.

I can see the logic behind that conclusion. I had just always assumed that people understood the intense competition behind actually getting a spot in one of these universities. Thanks for the clarification!

Your GPA doesn’t really help you, but it wont hurt you since it’s in the range. Same with your SAT II’s… If you can get your SAT to 2200, that should give you some sort of an edge. And if you ED to cornell, you should be able to get in pretty easily.

Thanks for the advice! Anyone else have anything to offer? Im stilling looking for a bit more views on which college to apply ED. Any comment would be appreciated!

Try NYU ED, you will get in and if its somewhere you want to go then all the better. You might also qualify for some good scholarships at USC, apply there (you can’t apply at only UCLA or USC, do both :P)

Thanks for the responses! Would it be safe to consider UC Berkeley and UCLA as matches or would that be underestimating thier difficulty? Also would it be more difficult to gain acceptance into UC Berkeley or NYU stern. I know that stern admissions are based off of geography and the majority of NYU students come from the east coast where as I am from the west. Any comments?

You should be in at UCI, UCDavis and even UCSD (assuming they continue to adhere to thier formula). UCLA, UCBerk and NYU stern are approximately on the same level so they would be matches ( NYU stern and Berk would be a little harder to get into). Cornell and Chicago especially for Econ are pretty tough so id say…high target ED and Reach RD
