Chances University of Michigan?

Just finished my Junior Year. Starting to plan for colleges to apply to. Do i have a chance at all for University of Michigan?

White Male
Washington

Unweighted GPA- 3.6
5 AP classes
1 honors class (my school only offers 2)
School doesn't weight grades

Second semester GPA junior year- 3.7

Senior year classes
AP Lit
AP Bio
AP World History
Pre Calculus
French 3
ceramics
Yearbook
Leadership

3 years of leadership
Over 100 hours community service
2 years national Honor society- next year officer
3 years tennis 2 years varsity

Want to start a key club and a french club at my school

did a short exchange program in France

ACT scores are coming soon but i predict between a 27-31
SAT taking next available

What can i do to increase my chances

I want to major in Athletic Training

I did not do as well first semester of junior year, i was having a very successful tennis season, and concentrated more on that then school (immature and dumb of me i know) will this hurt my chances. I got a 3.4 that semester, and Ive heard junior year is the year colleges look at your grades the most

What can i do to increase my chances?

You’ll be fine, U of M isn’t hugely selective, get over a 29 ACT and you will more than likely get in. Although, on the banks of the red cedar is where it’s at, man.

Thanks tcwest2010. anyone else?

get 2000+ on sat and you should probably get in, chance me please

bump? anyone else

Bump. 10 char

I was rejected by Michigan (this is in 2004) with better academic stats, similar EC’s, and some nationally recognized awards/scholarships. I’d say that for out of state applicants, your profile puts you at a mid-reach.

From the information on sites that provide information about colleges,

Your Gpa looks okay, though it may be in the middle/lower half of the pool.

Since you didn’t take the Sat I yet, I’d say if you can get at least 2000 on it and a 27~31 on the Act, then you’ll be have a better chance for admission.

Also, I’m not sure if UoM wants letters of recommendation from your teacher(s), but try to get strong recommendation letters, one of my teachers, who served as a admissions officer told me that the teacher recommendations are actually a decent percent of the acceptance, though they can’t “bring back the dead”, meaning that they only help to an extent. If you do get letters of rec, I’d recommend getting a letter from both a english/history teacher and a science/math teacher so that you appear well-rounded.

I can get some good letters of recommendation for sure! Thanks Jlee. Anyone else?

Anyone else ? I’ll chance you back

I think you have a good chance if you do well on the ACT. I would say your best bet would be to get good test scores and get your app in early!

Good luck!
