I have a 3.73 weighted GPA with four honor classes. I will be taking AP Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics, and Calculus next year. I have a composite SAT of 1890, a 690 in math, a 580 in critical reading, and a 620 in writing. I will probably get a 29 or 30 on the ACT. Also, I have over 100 hours of volunteering and am involved in two clubs in school. Do I have a good chance at getting accepted to Penn State- University Park?

Take a look and see where you fall.

Do you know if this chart is accurate and updated?

[Middle 50% GPA & SAT Range - Penn State Undergraduate Admissions](http://admissions.psu.edu/academics/majors/requirements/50percent/)

It says it is for Fall 2008 admissions, so it’s a year old. So is the bubble chart.

Can anyone else please chance me?

What are your single sitting SAT’s? Penn State doesn’t superscore.

That is my score in a single sitting. The first time I took it I got a 670 in math, a 570 in reading, and a 580 in writing for a 1820 total. I hope this clarifies my initial post.

I think you look solid. Good luck.

Thanks. Does applying for the Eberly College of Science for Statistics make admissions harder?

Nope.

If your stats are good enough for PSU UP then you will be good to go.

Do you think my stats are good enough?

Your grades/test scores look very good. I’d assume you would gain admission.

Based on the bubble chart, you fall right at the top of the yellow dots - so appears borderline based on that. You are very close though, so may depend on quantity and quality of other applicants. The chart is from 2006.

Also put down summer session. You seem to fall right between the yellow and blue dot, so summer will help.

Thanks for the imput. I was planning on putting down summer session and sending my application in early October. I heard that the summer program is really good.

Dear letitrock117- My son had an 1850 Sat and a 3.5 W GPA and he was offered the summer LEAP. He just finished classes today. If you are willing to do summer it will definetely help to put it down. My son has made a lot of friends and has really enjoyed the experience. He said the best part of LEAP was that knowing when sept came he would already know his way around campus and have a great group of friends to hang out with. Good Luck

How many classes do you take in the summer leap program? I need to work to have spending money for the year, are jobs available on campus, or is it better to find a job in town? I can’t figure out how much it would be to do the summer program including room and board.meals,books,etc.

Most students take 6 credits during the summer which is 2 classes. A lot of jobs are available on campus and in town. I know the food services are always an option; you get discounted rates for meals and flexibility which is a plus.

I posted this question on another thread, and apolgize if duplicative, but this thread looks a bit more active. I have a son at PSU-UP who is doing well, and my D wants to got there. SHe is applying now and the situation and questions are these:

Her SATs are solid (580M, 640V and 590W). Her grades are weak (2.9) due largely to weakness in math and chemistry (D and C respectively). However, her grades in her strong areas (ENglish, history) are quite solid. However, a 2.9 is well below PSU standards.

This fall she will have Honors ENglish and AP Psych - areas in which she is strong.

COuple of questions: if she applies do a DUS major like History or English, will that enhance her chances? I have heard that they need such majors and it is less competitive. WIll they match up her obvious strengths and pay less attention to a D in chemistry, for example?

If she states on the app that she is willing to start in the summer, would that enhance her chances?

Any other recommendations along those lines? Thankis much.

“I posted this question on another thread, and apolgize if duplicative, but this thread looks a bit more active.”

Have to agree. If you can’t get an answer in 7 minutes you should cross post to another thread for better results. Good Luck.
