Chances! UT ARchitecture

I am not particularly sure on where I am applying yet, but I plan to major in architecture; for sure I am applying to CalPoly, UT Austin, and Virginia Tech.
Other schools I am considering include Cornell, Rice, and USC.

I go to a highly competitive high school; even though I have never gotten a B in my life I don't have a (comparatively) higher rank because of a few errant course decisions.
Weighted GPA is 4.26, or close to that; my rank is 42/1330.
SAT scores: 740 math, 730 reading, 660 writing
I haven't taken the SAT-IIs yet; however, I understand that I need to take them to be considered for Cornell, Rice, and USC. I'm not keen on taking them, which is why I am sure on applying to the first three, but hey, what can you do?

Because of the top 9% rule, I get in to UT automatically, but not the school of my choice; I want to know the chances of me getting into the architecture school, not the university itself (which is guaranteed). I really badly want to get into the UT architecture program because it is my dream school in terms of proximity to home, size, and national ranking. If I get in, I'm going. It's really selective, though, and I'm pretty worried as to getting in, because the admission rate is pretty low and they don't accept transfers.

Senior year, I am taking Calculus BC AP, Physics B AP, Art History AP (well, those are the courses that matter, anyway)

As far as ECs go:
State finalist in Visual Art Scholastic Event (9th), regional finalist in VASE (11th); Art Club member
National Merit Semifinalist
German state competition winner; German Honors Society president as well as German Club VP (12th)
Championship level tennis player; was on the tennis team (10th)

As for my portfolio, I really cannot post that; however, UT, CalPoly, and VT don't require one. I'm not sure if providing a link to my art website would be appropriate....

Granted, most of these don't really matter for architecture, but I posted them anyway if they help.
Be as brutal as you like! My self-esteem is pretty low anyways.

I think you have a good chance at the schools you mentioned. Have you looked into Cincinnati, Carnegie Mellon, Drexel, Temple, Syracuse, Penn State and aswell as some possible safeties like Ball State University and UOregon?

Some of the schools I mention require/reccomend an art portfolio, are you taking an AP Art this year? It would greatly help with portfolio building. Also, even if an Architecture program does not require an portfolio you could still submit it or bring some artworks that you believe highlight your work to an interview.

By the way what state are you from? Is it Texas?

Texas has gotten very selective. The last time we spoke to the Dean he was saying that they get 800 applicants for the program who have been accepted to the university, and they accept 80. However it is pretty much an SAT and GPA contest and I think with your statistics you would have a very strong chance of getting in.

I don’t know much about USC, but I know that Rice and Cornell have a very different application process with a lot more emphasis on the portfolio and interview.

Mysticalkites: Thank you so much! I have considered Syracuse and Carnegie Mellon, but I will certainly look into the schools you posted.
I am a Texas resident, yes. I hope that gives me some clout into getting admitted into UT…
I took AP 2D Art last year. It was a really great way for me to build a portfolio, and though I’m not in art this year I’m trying to do some of the projects they assign out of class, if I have the time. It should help with building a stronger portfolio because not all of my AP 2D art pieces from last year were my best…

rick12: Thank you so much! That makes me feel a lot better.
Okay, I guess I need to focus more on the portfolio, then, if I intend to apply…
