Chances @ UVa,USC,Michican,NYU,Notre Dame...

I did a prior Chance thread to the UC's, but I made another one to see what my chances are at private schools.

Class: rising Senior
Graduating Year: 2008 (took senior pics today!)
Class Rank: 3/345 (our school is not very academically competitive, though)
Unweighted GPA: ~3.95
Weighted GPA 10-12: ~4.41 (hnrs classes count as unweighted at my school)
Family Income: <25k (hoping for general financial aid)

10th Grade:
Eng 2 Hnrs : A A
Span 2 : A A
Alg2/Trig : A B
AP Euro : A A
Chemistry : A A
P.E. : A A

11th Grade:
AP Eng Lang : A A
Span 3 : A A
PreCal Hnrs : A A
AP US Hist : A A
AP Bio : A A
Expl. Art : A A

12th Grade (schedule):
AP Lit:
AP Span:
AP Stats:
AP Civics and Econ:
AP Environmental Sci:

AP Exams:
AP Euro: 4
AP BIO: 5
AP US: 5
AP Lang:4

SAT Reasoning: 1990 cumulative (CR: 640, M: 680 W: 670)
1st Sitting. Will retake in Oct.; expecting at least a 2050

SAT Subjects: Biology: 690, U.S. Hist: 700 Math IIC: 660.
The discrepancy between these scores and that of the AP exams is because I took the SAT subjects before the AP and during the school year so the course was not completed nor was there sufficient studying. Big mistake...and I can't take it again because the material is forgotten! :(

EC's:
Eagle Scout from Venture Troop (300+ community service hrs.)
VP of Venture Troop
Senior Patrol Leader of Boy Scout Troop
Club membership in: Kiwin's, American Heart Association, Interact (though I have few hours).

It doesn't seem like much, but the Eagle Award is the highest attainable rank by a Boy Scout and I believe is very prestigious.

I would like to hear your opinions regarding my chances @:
1. University of Virginia
2. University of Michigan
3. Notre Dame
4. New York University
5. University of Texas at Austin
6. Boston Colege
7. University of Southern California

The only general statistical averages of the colleges I know of are from the UC's, and accordingly I know I must raise my SAT scores. i would really appreciate it if you guys would chance me on these private schools, in case I decide to move away from home. I hope I am not being too pretentious on my college selection; please tell me which colleges I should just not even bother applying to.

These colleges are business oriented because it is my career direction as of now. My primary choice right now in this list would be USC (although my main ones are still Berkeley and UCLA) because it is the closest to home and my parents are indeed worried asians :). But I know USC has had a bad reputation of a party school and spoiled magnet, and it is still trying to overcome this, and this is why I am wear on applying.

I would like to thank this forum for its help. Also, if it's not too much trouble, could you guys recommend colleges that would be suitable considering my circumstances if location is not a factor. Thanks.

bump anyone?

University of Virginia--match, although OOS it can sometimes be a hit or miss thing P.S. My son took courses at UVA earlier this summer. You will have to reapply for the business school (McIntire Commerce School) for admittance as a junior.

University of Michigan--match--see if you can get the freshman admittance to Ross so you don't have to reapply for admittance as a sophomore

Notre Dame--slight reach (they are heavy on ECs)

New York University--match (at Stern)

University of Texas at Austin--match (and maybe admittance to business honors)

Boston College--slight reach (they look at religious background and volunteer service a lot)

University of Southern California--match at Marshall

Note: UC Berkeley has an undergraduate business school (although you have to reapply for admittance in the junior year), but UCLA does not have an undergraduate business school (although you can major in Economics or take a minor in Business with a lot of Accounting courses).

Thanks for the input Calcruzer. I will focus on my EC's. Oh I'm also a seal bearer for CSF and will probably be in NHS for sure next year so hopefully that will increase chances.

Haas's (UCB) undergrad 2-year does make me weary because of the process of applying and acceptance rates at 50%. Must be competitive, but the reputation would be great. Good to know I might have options though.
