I believe your chances are very good. Although your test scores are below average, your GPA is phenomenal, along with your AP scores. That ‘Asian-American’ tag is always a minus, but great EC’s cancel those out, as well.

Conclusion: While you have some minor weaknesses, they are clearly outweighed by your strengths. Don’t get your hopes up, but I think you have just as good a chance as the next guy.

If you think you can do better, then by all means do so. Aim for 34+ and you should be among the elite applicants to UPenn.

Excellent ACT (34+)
Near-perfect GPA
Excellent EC’s
Average SAT II’s
Above-Average AP’s

With that 34+ ACT, you should almost be a shooin.

By the way, you should seriously consider retaking SAT II Math or taking another SAT II. However, only retake if you can guarantee yourself 750+.

This is the Penn forum, not the Penn State forum…

As for the OP, you have a solid shot. Prove in your essays that you’re not an interchangeable pre-med gunner, but someone who will add something special to Penn’s community.

In my opinion, you’re borderline. Write quality essays and you’ll have a pretty good chance. and no you will not be a shoe-in because no one is at any top school. With Ivies its all random, I have friends who were rejected by Penn but got in to HYP and many other variations. Work hard and hope for the best, that’s all you can do. And really, don’t be nervous. You’re smart, you should be smart enough that being nervous won’t help.

Well if your unsure about penn dont go ED cause its binding. Why not take early action which is not binding and at the same time boost ur ACT and SAT 2 and do penn RD.

it is just that I have taken the ACT 5 times (30-32 range but schools only know of one score).

If I take it in sept, I dont think I will be able to improve greatly just because I dont have much time to study. I want to concentrate on the essays which I think might be more important that getting a 33.
