Hey, I am a Southeast Asain immigrant who goes to an extremely competitive, nationally recognized, public school in New York City.

SAT: 2060 (720-m, 680-v, 660-w) anticipating 2200ish on retake
SAT IIs: Math IIC: 730 US History: 660 (might retake, should i?) (should i take a third satii, im not that good at anything else?)

GPA:
Freshman Year 78 (Tough Transition, wasn't concentrating)
Sophmore Year 87
Junior Year 91

Course Load: Since my school offers like every AP, it is hard to take the school's toughest course load but i took 2 APs Sophmore Year and will take 3 APs Senior Year.

Essay: Definitely stong point, fantastic essay.
Good Recomendations

Extra Curriculars:
Study Abroad (Spent 2nd Term of Junior Year in Germany)
400+ Hours Volunteering in Church Group (Group Leader)
200+ Hours Volunteering in Veterans Home
2 Years Debate Team
Interned every summer at different places
Worked at many different interesting places

What are my chances at:

U Mich
U Wisconsin - Madison
SUNY Bighampton
Oberlin
(Please give me other suggestions)

yes glucose, some kids say that their schools only offer 4 or 5 aps and they take all of them, that is why i am saying that i am NOT taking the hardest course load. thanks for the imput.
crzy, thats for your imput as well, yep i do go to stuy

im from wisconsin and id say you have a pretty good chance at madison... i know what its like to have little AP's offered..i go to a school of 200 kids.. this is counting the jr high... and i dont think i've taken an AP but like some people have AP us history but thats a required class in my school so i dont know.. anyways.. i plan on applying there also... but your sat scores are definately good enough and they do look at the trend of grades. and they will be able to see that yours are increasing.. so as long as you do have some of those AP courses in there and your towards the top 20% of your class id say you're in

lol, I want people to be honest, i dont need anyone giving me false assurance that colleges dont really look at freshman grades or whatnot. do you think that i dont have much of a chance at any of these?

I think you have good chances at Madison, which has a hard time attracting minorities, including Asians. You also could add Grinnell to your list. It's an excellent liberal arts college, but since it is in Iowa has a hard time attracting a truly diverse student body. If finances are a consideration, it is also generous with merit aid.

Michigan gets rid of all freshman year grades. Your SAT scores are right on the top 25% of all applicants. Your GPA still isn't up to their standards though, what is it on a 4.0 scale, only the 5 academic classes? I'd call it a match/reach

Extra Curriculars are weak
SAT score is okay
GPA freshman year.. ack.. at least you went up, thats always a plus

Id say bing is a match/safety
bing concetrates on GPA but you have the SAT score, so it cancels out
I think you can aim higher than bing.. Im not familiar with many colleges , sorry

I'm from wisconsin, There is NO way you'll get into wisconsin, they souly look at GPA, that's it. I'm sorry for being so negative, but go with UMichigan if they drop frosh year grades! Good Luck!

Since your asian, i say bump that 70% chance up a little bit. I am applying their as a transfer and i am definetly hoping that being a minority will help me. Really i am half white half asian, but as i live with my mom and she is asian, i consider myself the same

You have to remeber that you LIVE in wisconsin, which is a huge advantage, assuming this person is out of state, and parents/relative didn't go to Madison, I find it hard to believe that You could get in. Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for you, and of course the Badgers!

I think you have decent chances at all of the schools, including U Wisconsin, which has a hard time attracting minorities including Asians.

One thing that I question about the colleges on your list: Why is Oberlin there? It's a wonderful liberal arts college, but doesn't have anything in common with Michigan and Wisconsin (I don't know Binghampton well enough to comment on it). People who like Oberlin typically would not want to go to a place like Michigan or Wisconsin because those campuses would be too big and too sports oriented for them.
