I play college rugby, write for The Observer (the official school paper), in Amnesty Internatial (currently planning a human rights festival), and am currently studying Brazilian Jujistu. I play percussion and am currently playing in a psychedelic jam group. I also am a research assistant to the head of the Chem department; I do pretty expensive and complicated experiements for a professor with a small group of select chemisty student.

In high school I was class treasurer, played four years varsity football, had multiple bands which recorded and played shows, and held two jobs for almost all of high school. I had a 3.2 UW at private catholic and was 32/177. I took the hardest course load possible.

I'm also a nationally-ranked powerlifter. I came in 3rd at States in JV sophomore year, 1st as States in Varisty junior year, and 3rd as States in Varsity senior year. I plan to compete in the NY Open.

Right now my list is:
Vassar
Brandeis
Wesleyan

I have a hook at Vassar because I am a crew recruit (even thought I have no prior experience). I met with the coach today and he told me he will send out a recommendation to admissions when the time nears. He specifically said he wished he had me there this year, so I'm pretty sure he wants me at Vassar. However, they are not need-blind for transfers, and my EFC is about $19,000.

I need other realistic schools. I'd like the NE and to be under 6K students. Thanks!

I'd say you're in at Brandeis. Pretty good shot at Wesleyan; we're need blind but have lackluster finaid. Vassar seems to be harder to transfer into than Wes, but you've got connections so I'd give that one a good shot too.

Your criteria for other schools leaves a lot of options...most of the top liberal arts colleges are in the northeast and they don't get bigger than Wes (3k) so you're set, just start looking.

I didn't think I'd have a change at Haverford or Swathemore. I'm nervous that I didn't get A's in my subjects in my majors, and that may look bad.

Some schools that are a bit less selective but sometimes show up on lists with Brandeis, Vassar, and Wesleyan are: Clark, Connecticut College, Colgate, Goucher, Hamilton, and Skidmore. Not all are in New England, but are in the Northeast.

Vassar is fussy about GPA. Stay closely in touch with the coach throughout the semester. Sometimes they need reminding that you're still interested and still counting on their help.

Brandeis seems like a good bet for you and Wesleyan a reasonable reach. If you're determined to leave Bard, a few safeties would be a good idea. Good luck.

Clark offered me a terrible financial aid package last year. The other problem is that my parents won't give me any money for college if I don't go to a school which is not as good if not better than Bard. That's sort of a problem.

I also want to go to a school where I can do research but there is still that LAC feel. That seems to be hard to find.

Trinity? A terrific rowing program. I know nothing else about Trinity except that three very different friends of S's go there and all like or love it for various reasons. Two (law; writing; english) are frat guys, one (pre-med) is not.
