does it help that i'm really good at writing essays ?

It definitely helps that you’re a good essay writer. They singled my essay out as probably the biggest reason (aside from scores and stats) I was selected to interview for Presidential’s. Make sure you write about something passionate, and hopefully unique.

Other than that, your test scores are low. SAT’s are 2100+ to be competitive, ACT probably 32.

Just get your SATs to at least 2000 and you have a decent shot.

I agree with longnguyen about trying to raise your test scores. USC doesn’t have an “early” deadline exactly. It’s “early” deadline is only for scholarship purposes, not like ED or EA. So you should be fine retaking the ACTs again.

And looking at your GPA to your rank, what was your course-load like? Was it relatively difficult for what was offered? And you should see where people from your school have gotten into based on their stats. GPA wise you look fine, but the 25% would be a bit borderline.

filmafile: New Trier, Stevenson, Niles, or BG? Son starts USC this fall in architecture. He is from BG. He had an ACT of 31 but GPA Unw was 4.93/5.00
