Chances when deffered?

So, with the results in it turns out Northwestern has decided to defer me (I’d honestly rather they just told me out-rightly if I’m accepted or denied), what’re my chances for ACTUALLY getting in?

Fellow deferred applicant here. The only data I can find is from 2009, when they deferred 3.5% of ED applicants and accepted half of those. If the numbers held somewhat steady, we probably have solid shots. Best of luck to you.

I am a deferred applicant as well. Are any deferred applicants sending “new information” via the Applicant Portal as mentioned in the deferral letter?

Bken, can you provide a source to those statistics? Just curious since I was deferred as well.

Im in the same boat, it says they only accept a small amount of deffered applicants. They also say we hear back in early april, but reg decision people hear back late march, what do you think that means?

@student1798 We hear back at the same time as regular decision; the letter says by early April so it is probably similar to the ED process where they announce the 15th as the date but actually release results a little earlier.

http://www.northbynorthwestern.com/story/northwestern-admissions-alters-early-decision-poli/ an old North by Northwestern article. Also, my counselor is checking in to get a number of deferred applicants this year so if she hears back, I’ll let you all know.

That would be much appreciated! If stats are the same a prior most deferrals have about a fifty percent chance of acceptance. However this year appears to have a LOT more.

Anyone know how many were accepted, denied, and deferred for ED this year or years prior?

they usually accept the same percentage of people (25%) to fill half their class with ED, and defer <5%

Deferred with a 4.0 and a 33. Ive lived in Evanston my whole life and haven’t missed a home football or basketball game since I was six. Does anyone know of things I can do to boost my chances beyond the classic deferral letter, finish 2nd semester strong, counselor call to admissions office, or things that are kind of obvious? I’m pretty desperate and I’m even thinking about signing up for a tour every saturday till the end of march. I know that sounds a bit excessive but I really don’t know how to put the connection I have with nu into words. Please please please anything helps I have an interview with my dads coworker who is on the board of trustees and I think he will write a letter but there are 50+ trustees and all will write more than one. I am also an intern in the marketing department and had my boss write me a rec letter. Should I just smother them with things that will put my name across their desk?

Be careful not to seem annoying. Demonstrating interest is great. Demonstrating a freakish obsession is not…
