chances + when to submit app?

I have Umich ~3.5 GPA
2140 (1450) SAT
decent-good science xtra curriculars

out of state applicant

I will be retaking SAT in October. I know I will definitely be getting 2250+ (decent chance of 2300+) because I didn't study at all the first time I took it, and can definitely see improvement.

So, since Michigan is rolling, will I have a better chance of acceptance if I submit my app before November or wait till I get the 2250?
I heard the earlier they get it the more chance you have.

If you write in the date you're going to retake your SATs on you app, but leave the scores blank, they supposedly won't defer you until those come in.

Actually, believe it or not, you may be on the fence with Michigan. Your GPA falls well below their 25th percentile for admissions although your SAT is at their 75th percentile or slightly higher so they may balance out. However, you're an out-of-state applicant which makes things more difficult, so I would make sure you write a solid essay and apply to Michigan as soon as possible(like late September or early October)!!!

so dictator, do you think applying september will give me a better shot at getting in than getting a 2250 and applying november?

also, do you have to get it in by nov 1 to qualify for merit scholarships?
whats the acceptance rate for OOS students? anyone know?

what's the average GPA for out-of-state students on the umich scale (25-75%)

"Actually, believe it or not, you may be on the fence with Michigan. Your GPA falls well below their 25th percentile for admissions"

Not true. 3.5 is around average after they recalculate it. The GPA averages they report are based on what the transcript says (unweighted), not how they redo it.

And even if it wasn't, 3.5 isn't "well below" their 3.6-3.9 average.

If you tend to get B+s, Umich gpa is lower; if you tend to get lots of A-, Umich gpa is alot higher.

"If you tend to get B+s, Umich gpa is lower; if you tend to get lots of A-, Umich gpa is alot higher."

Yeh, which is why my GPA is only 3.5...
SO MANY classes I had like 89.2 or 88.9... ugh so annoying

and even for schools that dont recalculate... our school gives us a 3.3 for a B+ and a 3.8 for A-... my GPA got so screwed because of that

Question for ReninDetroit:
How do you know 3.5 is average AFTER recalculation? Where can you find GPA stats after recalculation?
