Washington University in St. louis
Georgetown University
Johns Hopkins University
Brown University

Thanks guys! and I will chance back!!

Bump… :]

wow how did you get a weighted GPA of 4.77 with only 3 AP classes?

and i’m not a professional or anything but I’m pretty sure you have a good chance in getting into all of those colleges.
Georgetown is really expensive, by the way :o

Georgetown is super expensive so I’m iffy on applying there. And I didn’t realize I left out two of my AP classes…so far I’ve taken five ap classes and that’s how I got that gpa. LOL that would’ve been amazing to only take three and get that.

Thanks for the thoughts!

wow… you have a good chance at all those colleges :X

Dude you have a good chance on any college with those EC’s. IVy leagues included.

I don’t see anything spectacular in terms of EC’s, and your ACT score seems a tad low, for the ivies/ U Chicago but other than that I don’t see much of an issue for your application. UChicago/Brown are slight reaches but other than that you should be okay

old thread, would appreciate the chance with bump!
new list of colleges though:

my tentative college list (without safeties) are:
tufts
george washington university
georgetown
american u
macalester
amherst
williams
brandeis
grinnell(?)
brown/dartmouth (maybe… depends on test scores I get in fall)
washington & lee
UVA
middlebury
colgate

More realistically, the schools above the 20 rankings are all reaches. However, low to mid reaches.

It seems like you’re quite competitive. Maybe if you can improve your ACT score (try taking it this September??) you’d be basically a match for all of them. Oh and do well first semester of senior year obviously; that can really improve your chances. Write good essays. If you do those three things, I think you’d be a really good match for all of them.

Bump…Would like more opinions :] Thank you guys for all your input!! I’m really focused on California schools!

UCLA - Target
UCB - Target
UCSD - Safety
University of Southern California - I bet you’re in
UChicago - Low Reach
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor - Match
Cornell University - Low Reach
Washington University in St. louis - Low Reach
Georgetown University- Target
Johns Hopkins University - Low Reach
Brown University - Low Reach

I say low reach a lot, but I think you have great chances at getting in those schools!
Good Luck!

I hate to break it to you, but the responses you’re getting are unrealistically optimistic.

Your GPA and test scores are low for top schools and your ECs are typical at best. No way at Wash U and Brown. Chicago, Michigan, Cornell, and JHU are high reaches.

I’m glad you’re focused on the CA schools. You’ll probably get in to a couple of those.

Not really, their just relatively average.

You do realize the middle 50% ACT for Brown was like 30-33, 32-34 for WashU? That number probably weighs in legacies and athletes as well, but her profile is still comparable to many of the kids accepted at these schools.

More importantly, her profile is comparable to many of the kids rejected by these schools. Take a look at these college’s actual results threads and the acceptance rates. The odds are not good.

I hope I’m wrong, but I doubt I am.

Yes, but I wouldn’t think that the kids who are currently attending Brown/JHU/Cornell were academically that much more qualified than the masses of kids who were rejected. I might be wrong, but I think it just comes down to the smallest details or some truly gripping sentence of an essay when AO has to choose Student A’s 4.0 GPA Profile over Student B’s.

I do also think that some of the responses in this thread are a little too optimistic (Chicago is not a low reach for anyone), but I don’t think it would be a waste of $50 to send in her application as oppose to some unhooked 1700 SAT kid who really actually doesn’t have a chance.

Alright, thank you guys for your opinions! @Sherpa - Thanks for your honest thoughts, but I’m still gonna apply to those schools cause I still do wanna give 'em a shot. Even if they’re hard to get into, it doesn’t mean I don’t have a chance

@askjeeves - Thank you for your defense!! I definitely know what you’re talking about, and you’re right, plenty of “average” (I don’t even know what that means) kids get into top schools with awesome essays or stunning EC’s, etc. There is no reason to put someone down if they just have average scores cause there are so many other ways they can make up for it.

:] Now I have an opinion on a few schools and probable matches/safeties/reaches - Appreciate it, guys!

I like your attitude and I hope I didn’t come off too negatively. I agree that “normal” kids can and do get into top schools.

It bugs me, though, when I see kids giving each other false hope at reach schools. UCSD, for example, is not a safety for you. I think you’ll get in there. But it’s not a safety.

Apply to all your schools.

Good luck!

UChicago - Target

You have a lot of extracurriculars, which is good but you need to be able to pinpoint a few you’ve really given your heart and soul to. That way you can show your commitment and dedication to something instead of looking like someone who does stuff for apps.

Good luck and I’m sure you’ll do great!
