Chances with a 1800 SAT score.....

<p>Hello CC, This my first post on this forum. I got a 1800 on my SAT reasoning (650M, 580CR & 570W). Im from India. I have a score of 101 on my TOEFL and a 77% aggregate percentage in my c.b.s.e board exams. Obviously, I wont get into any ivy league's. As i missed the deadlines for fall. Im trying to apply for spring 2012. In the following universities:
1. Purdue University -WL
2. Virginia Tech
3. Texas a&m University</p>

<p>I was doubtful whether i'd get into these universities for electrical engineering undergraduate course. I'd really appreciate if anyone could recommend more universities that match my SAT score and are good for engineering.</p>

<p>I dont have many EC's in 9, 10, 11 or 12th grade. I've won a Physics Exhibition in my school last year for making a van de graaff generator. Participated in many Debates and Declamation Contests (Never Won....) and attended a NCC(National Cadet Corps) camp in 10th grade.</p>

<p>Can anyone help me.......what are my chances?</p>

<p>You need to improve on your writing. CR is usually a soft point for an international student. Since you have the summer and half a year to prepare before even the RD round passes, you should practice on past SAT tests. Writing can be really easy if you learn a few tricks and use them often while solving real problems. You can take more than 1 SAT and the colleges will take the best scores for each section from all of them.
Ex) 560 CR 700M 580W
Ex) 600 CR 690M 600W
Super score: 600CR 700M 600W
Some schools may be iffy on this, so check beforehand if this is applicable.
I would do the following search before applying for next year if you seem content with your scores. Look at US news ranking and search for the category where unis are rated by admissions rate. You should apply to those that are not labeled as hard or so, but are still excellent for your program. These schools will even offer awards upon merit and can act as your safety schools.</p>

<p>Sadly i cant retake the SAT because i just passed my 12th and have to get into some college (India or US) this year. Or at most till january or february. Thats why im trying hard to get into above stated universities for 2012 winter or spring term</p>

<p>Go to the collegeboard website. Enter your SAT scores, etc, and they’ll match you with schools. They’ll even give you all of the admission stats for the schools. (average GPA, SAT score, class rank, etc.)</p>

<p>Dunno if this is the right place to ask but do any of you think i stand a chance in princeton RD ?
Had a 1820 on sat reasning (math 700, CR 550, WR 570) SUB : PHY - 800,CHEM - 790, math lvl 2 - 750. TOEFL iBt - 113/120
I am from India and m studying at the city montessori school.
Keeping in mind that its the worlds largest school in terms of pupil strength i hv got a stellar EC record with al sorts of ECs art, esay writing, debatng, quizes etc .
I ws the awardd the mst promisng stdnt of the year award, ws the head of the student council, hv won many national debates (the EC tht m mst pasnate abt)nd participatd in numerous internatnl ones (with lil sucs!) … I hv volunterd at the internatnl cheif justices cnference nd stdnt quality cntrol circles … Hd taught poor children during summer breaks .
I hv been at the top of my class al my high school and never hd a B … Its all As .
Hd teachrs who would enthusiastcly recmnd me.
Hd fine essays.
The only blot seems to be my SAT reasning score … Do i stand a chance as an intrnatnl ?</p>

<p>I don’t know about Purdue, you can apply to Indiana University Bloomington, but you do have chances at the latter two. Also, if you don’t require financial aid, then you can get admitted to possibly any good state school, even some decent liberal arts colleges, if you’re willing to pay. Try applying to other schools as well, whose deadlines are in March or so, if I am not mistaken. </p>
