Chances with a twist

OK yea so I really really really want to get into Michigan, I want to go into Law eventually but I just want to get in so should i apply to LSA, engineering, or nursing, what would give me the best chance of getting in, I am strong in math and science and I was wondering if that would give me an advantage by applying to the engineering school as opposed to LSA, also how easy is it to transer from like nursing to lsa once im in, how much of a reach is U of M for me?

Stats
3.5 uw U of M GPA- Yea i know thats where its hurting me

700 Math
560 Reading
540 Writing

I go to a good public high school
Taken all honor/ap math and science classes
Dad is Allum who donates yearly
I have great teacher recs and essays
Also have good ECs and leadership roles
Prez of Debate Team and 4 Years playing lax

Why don't you just try for LSA? Raise your reading/writing score a bit and I'm sure the GPA can go up a little 2 and you'd be a good enough candidate.

I don't know how difficult it is to transfer from nursing to LSA. If you start out as a legitimate nursing student who realizes it is not your forte, that's one thing and I'd imagine they try to work with you. But if you are using Nursing as a "back door" entrance to LSA you're taking a risk.

Michigan is aware of students trying things like that (it was a bigger problem when Natural Resources admitted freshmen) and it is frowned upon.

im going to be a senior tho, so it would be hard to raise SATs or GPA, should i wait to til oct and take SATs again or would i have a better chance if i applied early

Hell I say take the SAT again in Oct and send scores then...you can also send in a mid-year transcript to show ur GPA has risen.

whats your rank?

as a fellow prospective with a similar GPA, i am scared away by the statistic that 98% of students graduated in the top quarter of their hs class.

are you in-state?

oh yeah, start studying for those SAT's, youre going to need to raise your score significantly.

Assuming you go to a normal high school and are talking a regular course load, Michigan will be a reach for you. Michigan's average Freshman graduated with a 3.7+ unweighed GPA and a 1320+ SAT score. But you certainly have a chance. Go ahead and apply as soon as possible.

I would personally stay away from Engineering, where the mean GPA is closer to 3.9 and mean SAT is closer to 1340. As for Nursing, you may find it difficult to transfer to LSA. I would just apply to LSA.

alright should i apply to U of M asap? If I applied now how would that work out with the SATs in october???

Write on the app that you plan to take the SAT and/or the ACT again. They should defer making a decision until they have your test scores in that way.

if i say that ill take them again in oct should i send my previous scores? will they definatly defer, if for some reason my previous scores are good enough will they accept me or do they have to defer?

Given your GPA, unless you come from a feeder high school and can raise your SAT substantially, I think there is a good chance you will be deferred. But you should apply early because you just don't know. They may decide to accept you because of a reason we do not presently see.

dont apply to nursing unless u have a looooott of healthcare experience, they really care about it. besides i dont think you have a shot really at either one, work on raising scores and stuff then try.
