Chances with average numbers

GPA of 2.9 and SAT score of 1090 (Reading and Math) I have very strong extra-curriculars and letters of recommendation. Looking at

UMass Amherst
Ohio
Bowling Green
Kent State
WVU
ASU
George Mason

UMass Amherst is my first choice, and I would love to know my chances of getting in

I went to UMass on a tour today and they said my GPA would be higher when they recalculate it due to the AP and honors courses I’ve taken

Accepted to WVU and Kent State so far

Are you from Massachusetts? Looking on Naviance, the average accepted GPA was a 3.42 UW and SAT was a 1284 (1600 scale) for my school (in MA)

@brennz I am from Pennsylvania

Accepted to Ohio U and Bowling Green

Congrats! Don’t know much about Amherst, but I was going to say Ohio and Bowling Green would accept you

Congratulations on those schools. I’m an instater for uMass Amherst; my sister applied there with a very high GPA and got in with multiple scholarships. Her SAT score for Reading and Math was 1390 (her writing was significantly worse).
It may be possible because she had barely any ECs unlike you do, but I wouldn’t expect many scholarships from them because you are out of state!

Good luck!

@Nigoni‌ I would just be happy to get accepted at this point, thank you very much!

@Nigoni‌ Also received a 26 on my ACT so I’m really hoping that boosts me over the edge

Hopefully. I’ve heard (maybe a rumor) that Eastern schools, such as uMass prefer SAT scores, but your ACT score is alright. Tell us if you get in!

@Nigoni Just accepted to George Mason, so that does get my hopes up for UMass

Denied by Ohio State

Accepted to Arizona State

Thanks for the update! It’s always GREAT when students ask for chances, then reveal what really happened.

Are you leaning toward one or the other at this point?

What about cost - if you look at (tuition, fees, room&board) - (scholarships and grants), can you list the cost of each university you’ve been admitted to?

@MYOS1634‌

You’re very welcome! I always thought what’s the point if I didn’t update it. I’m leaning towards Ohio University as my second option, and obviously UMass as my number one. Ohio U is my cheapest school because I got $28,000 in scholarships, second being ASU because I got the same amount. Unfortunately my third choice, George Mason, is the most expensive at $45,000/year (tuition, room and board, books, other expenses). UMass is second highest at $42,000/year. However, I would happily pay that if I were accepted

Just wanted to say congrats on your acceptances!

I think you’ll get into Umass. I recently got into the honors college and everything about the honors college. Best of luck to you though!

@TheAtlantic‌ thank you so much!

@cferrera13‌ that’s very exciting to hear, thank you very much!
