Hi, I'm new here. I was searching online and randomly found this site and decided to join because it seems very helpful from the posts I've read. So, hopefully someone can help answer this question for me. I will have sophomore status with housing this year, so I get priority over the incoming freshman, but I still have a bad priority number (5151) and I still am behind seniors and juniors in priority numbers. I just finished my housing agreement online, and I listed my preferences as a single dorm in Landis (I got into the honors program after first semester), Gilchrist, Broward and McCollum (in that order). Does anyone know what the chances of me getting any of those and having a single are? Any help would be much appreciated. ^^ Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the site. You'll find a collection of FSU parents and graduates, current students and FSU hopefuls here in the FSU section.

I'd say you chances are improving over what you had last year. The reason is that you are competing with your class, not the freshmen. Many students look for off campus apartments after the first year, so your 5151 goes lower (thus better), effectively, with time.

I bet you get what you want. :)

If you request McCollum, there are very limited studio apartments. You will probably end up with a townhouse where you have to share a room with 1 student and a bathroom with 3 students. I am thinking you should choose another dorm for a single as your last choice.

I agree with parent2noles and think your chances of getting what you want are getting better all the time!

Congrats on the Honors program! My daughter will be a freshman this fall and will be in the Honors program and is hoping to live in Landis. What do you think of the program so far? Are you taking any honors courses/seminars this semester? If so, what do you think of the class and the prof teaching?

Thanks cybermom, I'll update my application. :P

skibird,

I actually did not register for any honors courses this semester because I liked my schedule the way it was. So unfortunately I can't tell you anything about the teachers or effectiveness of an honors class/seminar. I do however have to take a research colloquium/seminar in the fall, as I'm sure your daughter will have to (although I don't know if the freshman have to do specifically the research colloquium like the sophomores will).

Also, as a heads up, I know that you won't know until June or July about testing credits if those apply for your daughter, but the honors classes offered in the fall are usually entry level courses, like chem 1, bio 1, calc 1, and in the spring the classes are the next level (i.e. chem 2, bio 2, and I think they had both calc 2 and 3), so if she has credits when she comes in it will be harder for her to take the honors designated courses.
