Chances with ED?

I am very interested in Brandeis, and it has been my top choice for quite some time now…I plan on applying ED there. I do realize that my test scores are rather low, though and would realllly like to know my chances. Also, i am in the IB program–will that help me? I will be visiting and doing the tour, info, sess, and interview soon–so any advice would be quite helpful. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot!

I'm not gonna beat around the bush: you have VERY slim chances of getting in. No offense, but you're just not qualified for deis. Your location says FL, maybe you'd be better at UF?

I think that you have ok chances. It helps that you are applying early but that Math score is fairly low (maybe you are just a bad test taker and that can be explained) Try and get the best possible recommendations and have your college counselor push very hard for you. Write really interesting essays and receive feedback from numerous people before you send it in. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your opinion, J! In response to "maybe you are just a bad test taker and that can be explained"...yes I am a horrible test taker. How could I explain that without sounding as if I'm making excuses? Also, I think I will have pretty good recommendations--and one excellent from my Duke Psych prof of this past summer. Also, do you think IB could help me?

AND ggoofer...johannes do not post such insensitive nonsense, ho.

It will help that you are taking IB. Also, play up the pysch aspect of your application if Brandeis has a strong pysch department - for you did get a 5 on the AP and are getting a recommendation about pysch.
In regards to the bad standardized test taking, you can talk to your guidance counselor about possibly putting that in the school recommendation - talk to him or her about it.
Also, realize that it is very competitive to get into Brandeis, so have other schools that you would be interested in applying to regular as well, not saying that you won't get in to Brandeis, but always be cautious.

I do realize the need to consider other schools as back-up (haven't found any I love and certainly would like to avoid UF) but am very hopeful. My gc already wrote my recommendation and actually mentioned that my scores were high, which they are in comparison with other scores at my school. But they definitely are not high in the Brandeis context as you pointed out. Would you advise my requesting her to change that?

I would advise you immediately drop out of high school and get to learning how to raise a family, cook meals, do laundry, etc.

ggoofer...johannes. stop posting here, ho.
