I live about an hour's drive away from UCLA, and it is my top choice to go to.
I have a pretty good academic record:
-4.3 GPA
-2180 SAT first try (CR 720 M 780 W 680) but blundered 2nd time around and got a 2100.
-SAT II: 710 US History, 800 Math IIC. Considering trying French this fall.
-Course difficulty: I took almost all AP/Honors classes in my school, except for Bio/Chem/Physics, the major science ones, because I wasn't all that interested.

However my main concern lies in extra-curriculars. How important are they? I come from a competitive school, but my ECs are almost non-existant.
-I joined a couple of clubs here and there, but no leadership positions.
-My main strength is that I have been playing piano for 12 years now
-Taught piano to kids
-Passed Panel CM Exam (highest level for some sort of standardized testing for piano)
-But haven't won any competitions.
That's pretty much it. No sports, no major fundraisers. Piano I think is a pretty bad EC because well, everyone does it. Nothing spectacular.

With that in mind, how is my admissions outlook? Thanks

you will probably get in. your extracurriculars are comparable with those of most ucla students, but your sats and gpa are higher than those of many.

Try to emphasize your piano talent in your essay, I should think. That's all I could say. I had same GPA, better SAT scores, bleh ECs, bleh essays and I got that supplementary app, which I think means I was borderline.

The people on the UC Berkeley forum have a special thread for chances. Can't one of the older people do one for this forum too? Individual chance threads are making it hard for me to find other things.

we had one but no one use it because they are too lazy to find the thread and also look for responses to them, instead they just want a thread to themself where all the responses apply to them.... but I do agree with you peppers, we really should make one but only the admins can sticky it...

thanks for the thread mme-lin, now we can bet on how many people are dumb enough to ignore the chances thread, we should make a rule like we only respond to chances on the official thread and no individual threads :)
