Hi im going to be finishing my junior year of high school this year and plan to ed cas at upenn. My uw gpa is 3.9 but after this sem i should pull it up to 3.92. Is this good enough? At my school a 90+ is a 4.0 so and A- is a 4.0. Is this recalculated to a 3.7? My school is a very competitive public school and there is a good reason they made 90+ 4.0. 80+ 3.0 and so on. Also my act is a 34. And i have a bunch of good ec. I plan on posting a chance me post later on. Do you giys also recommend internships for upenn and does it matter if they are paid/unpaid? Thanks so much. Upenn is my dream school!

Have you been challenging yourself with your course selection? Yes, a 3.9 is competitive, but it depends on how rigorous your courses are.

I am an ib diploma student. So my junior year has been 3hl ib classes and 3sl ib classes. I also have a hs credit from ap chem and a half credit from ap stats(had to switch out 2nd semester because of scheduling issues). But i dont plan on sending my ap scores in (not too hot). If i send in any ib scores itll probably my just math sl and physics sl because the other classes are still in progress

Can anyone help me out? Im really scared about this. Im afraid that my 3.92 will become like a 3.8 because upenn will recalculate the A-'s. Should I get my counselor to mention how our weighting works? We were always told they’re all the same and I’d hate for it to hurt my chances. I took the ib diploma so according to my counselor I have taken the most rigorous course schedule available at my high school. Will my gpa be fine? Am i still in a good standing? Please shed some light on this

Does your school use Naviance? You should be able to use that to see who has been accepted from your school, and what grades and test scores they had.

A compelling and challenging internship in the summer of your junior year can definitely help your application. It doesn’t matter if it’s paid or unpaid. In practice many internship, including those for college students are unpaid. What matters is what you contribute, and, to a much lesser extent, what you learn.

In terms of your GPA question I agree with a previous poster that Naviance can provide you with the best sense of how competitive you’ll be. It’s difficult to compare GPAs in the abstract because there is a hugh variation in grading policies in high school.
