Chances With UCLA/UCB/GW/AU

What are my chances of getting into George Washington University and or UCLA/UCBerk if anybody knows one of the three? I’m from Massachusetts, I have a 3.6 unweighted GPA ( I’m unsure of my weighted GPA but it’s well over 4), getting mostly A-'s throughout high school, getting only 4 B’s. I’ve taken 10 ap/college courses (we’re able to take courses a college called smith college right down the street from us), and the rest of which being honors courses but only a few classes. My SAT score is a 2000 (750 math, 630 reading, 620 writing) and i want to be a statistics/economics major if that matters. I don’t really want to list my EC’s but there are tons of clubs/volunteer works/jobs/and sports on my resume. Two of my college recs were OUTSTANDING and one decent. My UC essays were very good, and my common app was stellar.

Also my UC unweighted GPA is a 3.8 UW and 4.25 Weighted (but that’s due to the UC’s not weighting non California honors courses) and my highest SAT score in one sitting was a 1970.

My Ap’s/college courses with grade and Ap score are

Sophomore year: Ap Chem 90 and a 4

Junior: Us History 85, 4
Statistics. 93, 4
Microeconomics: 96, 5
English Language and Comp, 87, 5
Spanish 120 at Smith college: A-

Senior Year: Ap Physics C - 95,
Calc BC - 80
Macroeconomics at smith college - A
English Lit and comp - next semester
no AP tests yet

Hi,
I’m a junior and I live very very close to UC Berkley and know quite a few people who go there.

I have 2 friends last year who got into UC berkley. But they had a 3.85-3.9 unweighted gpa (4.3 weighted).

Others did not get in and had a 3.6-3.8 gpa unweighted.

As for the George Washington University, I have a friend who got in with a 2.8 gpa because he kicked butt in his essays and mostly his personal statement.

My UC GPA is 4.25 W and a little over 3.8 UW. Also chance me for UCSB, i forgot to add that!

It’s kind of hard to chance you without you ECs.But, your grades are OK. SATs scores again or OK. I don’t really see anything stellar here, but the rest of your application could make up for it, within a proper context of circumstances I guess…

Chance me back?

@2020hind‌ My EC’s consist of
3 yrs varsity baseball (captain)
3 years varsiy basketball
National Hnr society for two years
4 years best buddy member
Key Club (essentially a community service organization)
many work experiences
tutor
many volunteer experiences
many awards for school - Jane Adams award (free tuition at our state colleges)
AP Scholar w/distinction
and sadly I forgot to put my best EC-- interned for multiple psychiatrists in which i got to do much statistical analysis, probability, etc ( and i want to be a stats/econ major so that would have been great.

I’d say you’d probably get in at GW. UCLA maybe a toss up, but Berkeley is definitely a reach due to how selective it is.

@Asiankid1‌ What would you say about UCSB? Or would you have no idea.

I think because your test scores aren’t stellar, just good, and your gpa falls under the same category, your strong point is your ec’s, but they still might not be enough to get you into UCLA/UCB. I’d say they’re reaches. But GW is a match, and I’d be pretty surprised if you didn’t get into AU. I’d say that’s a low match/high safety. And UCSB is probably another match for you, maybe a little high. Overall, you have a strong app, and with great essays, you can really improve your chances!

I think that unless your essay is bland or not GW-specific (for your GW app, of course) that you have a great shot at getting into GW. GW likes smart kids but they REALLY like smart kids that want to be there. Good luck!

Awesome @NHuffer‌ because I managed to include a visit and specifics from the visit and what truly stood out about GW so hopefully that’ll work! Thank you very much.

Also for anybody else who looks at this, I was able to include the internship as i said above, and I also created a website for a Sophomore/Junior Physics course at my high school-- creating docs, finding the answers, posting online, basically teaching the class without actually being able to teach the students.

Can you afford the UC’s? You’ll be paying full fees for 4 years at any of the UC’s.

Your 1970 SAT is not competitive for Berkeley or LA. It may get you into Santa Barbara.

I know, the 1970 is actually last years’ average for OOS students for LA. I was just wondering due to my GPA (actually higher than the OOS average last year) and with my EC’s what it looked like.

The UC’s are funded by California taxpayers, so the first obligation of the university is to serve California kids. There is no financial aid for OOS kids, so I’m assuming you can pay the $55k per year for 4 years.

This is why your SAT score is important and crucial. Each of the UC’s looks differently at the tests and the GPA, and if these aren’t competitive with California kids’ scores, then that’s an issue for you.

EC’s tell them what you are like outside of the classroom, so its supplemental information.

Berkeley and UCLA and very competitive so those are automatic reaches. You may get into Santa Barbara.

I know UCLA’s decision is already out, but my guess for UCLA and UCB is high reach because of how many applicants they were this year. Also, UC does not take recs which is a disadvantage.
I would say UVA is a reach too. Your geography is certainly not in your favor and your grades and test scores aren’t oustanding for UVA standards.
I think you have solid chance for rest. Good luck!
