Chances with virtually nothing

I know that people always use their "friend" as an example of themselves when explaining something, but I actually am asking this in favor for my friend so here are his stats:

ACT: 21
GPA: 2.5 in a really big public school out of 800

He would like to go to Indiana University, Ohio State University, Marquette University, University of Cincinatti, Southern IL, etc

He has been a big participant in sports all four years, has done volunteer work at the hospital for two years, has won a few awards, is a minority, lives in Illinois, (if that makes a difference), and has really good essays. I know it looks kind of bad, but does anyone think he has the least bit of chance? So far he is getting all A's his senior year, and will have a much better turnout these upcoming semesters and wants to become an Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist. Will his senior year matter at all? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :-)

Could he retake the ACT? Is he a recruited athlete? Does he have an upward trend in grades? The answers to these questions make a big difference in his chances.

he isn't a recruited athlete, but would be applying as a regular student. His trend in grades has gotten better his junior year, and he is doing really well his senior year so far

I already gave you a heads up about me in the Indiana forum but here's a little more.

2.8 GPA, 21 ACT. Currently taking 4 AP classes my senior year. I didn't really kick in, in terms of academics till sophomore year. I had a 2.3 freshman year. I do 3 varsity sports, FBLA school president and district vice president. I've also done some community service.

University of Nebraska-Accepted
Iowa State- Accepted
Purdue- Rejected
St. Louis University- Accepted
Indiana University- Pending
Ohio State- Haven't applied

So that should give you a general idea of what to expect.

thanks for that info....greatly appreciated
