Chances @ Yale Art?

How much of a reach is Yale Art with...

School: Extremely competitive private (120 seniors)
GPA: ~3.5 UW
-9th: 3.0
-10th: 3.5
-11th: 4.0 (1 AP)
-12th: N/A (3 AP's including one art)
Rank: Bottom half

SAT I: 2000
SAT II: all in 700's

From what I know art schools generally have a lower academic standard than do comparable public/private colleges. Is this true for Yale as well? Are the academic profiles similar to the average Yale student body or a bit lower?

4 APs, 3.5 UW GPA, and a 2000 SAT

try Cornell or UPenn (esp. UPenn)

bump! 10char

It usually depends on whether or not a portfolio is a mandatory part of the application. I'm not familiar with art, but at least for architecture, an OUTSTANDING portfolio can SOMETIMES make up for less than stellar academics (but this doesn't mean that academics aren't taken into account).

I am considering Pratt for my daughter, but I am not sure about the Portfolio?
Is it required for the students, for Graphic design, or Interior design?
Thanks,

wait... does yale have an undergraduate art program that uses admissions criteria separate from the usual ones?

eating food,
Sorry for any confusion, I was in a hurry and didn't word my reply very well. I don't know if Y has separate entry for art (they do for arch, but only at the end of sop year). That's why I told the OP that academic standards might only be lower in art IF there was a mandatory portfolio. I didn't mean to imply that there was separate entry for art, thanks for catching that, I don't want it to be misinterpreted.

auntz,

Please feel free to start your own thread to ask questions for your D as it sometimes gets confusing on a thread when multiple posters are asking questions. Here is some information about what Pratt requires from applicants:

Pratt Institute / application

Yale does have art as an undergraduate major. However, Yale's School of Art is only a graduate school. One must be accepted to Yale College itself, regardless of major unfortunately. A portfolio is not required for Yale potential art undergrads, but they recommend you turn it in for your "supplementary materials." I'm not really sure about how much weight the portfolio carries or if potential art majors are held at a standard that is equitable to say, a potential law or business major. I'm in the same predicament. I have a 3.65 UW GPA, an 1810 SAT, 28 ACT, with 3 AP art credits and am applying to Yale as an art major. I guess we'll see!
