Ok, so I just finished my junior year. And while Columbia's not my #1 choice (of which I'm 95% sure I'm getting in - tiny liberal arts school in the city, Eugene Lang), it would be a nice option (and my dad might get in this mood where I can't go to NYC unless I get into Columbia -_-).

GPA
UW: 3.1
W: 3.6
(My sophmore yr gpa was horrendous. There was a bunch of family s*** going on and it just really brought me down... and because of my terrible grades, my school didn't allow me to be in even honour level classes this past year, which didn't help my gpa much... I'm definitely including that info on my college apps)

SAT I
CR: 700
M: 650
W:650
(I'm hoping to bump up all these scores, though. I'm retaking the test next weekend, and maybe again in Oct, if my scores don't improve enough)

SAT II
USH: 660 (but I didn't study... I might retake it)
Lit: 720

ECs
Next Year, I'll be starting a recycling programme at my school (well...kind of... I mean, I'll be putting bins all over the place, and collecting them every day to recycle them. I'm gonna try and get the Admin involved as well... It's so annoying...no one at my school reclycles, and I'm really big on environmental stuff, so...)

(If I could, I'd be in AP English, and Gov... but my school has grade requirements, and you can't test in APs, which just isn't fair, imo)

I realise that all of these things make Columbia a reach for me. But when I visited the school, the admission person who talked to us before the tour said that sometimes the lower rankers get accepted if Columbia feels they have some thing real to offer. She said a kick-a** essay could really help (obviously paraphrasing). So I was just wondering what you all think. Not that you're the admissions people, or that every single one of you answering "no" would deter me from applying... Just curious.

Thanks
