Is that SAT score with all 3 parts? If so, it is a bit too low. You’re gonna need at least a 1750-1850 overall to increase your chances of getting in. Your class rank and GPA are fine but I would be worried about that SAT score.

yeah that is all three parts i know it’s low…not sure why i’m able to work hard in school and and get good grades, but not on that. unfortunately, i had the hopes that schools wouldn’t be too hard on the SAT but i’ve come to realize that it matters the most…sooo yeah! thank you though! :)

with schools like Clemson, the SAT/ACT is a major part of their decision since they receive so many applications and as a result they take a much bigger look on the numbers than the stuff you’ve done outside of class etc… Unfortunate that they just use a formula to decide who gets in but that’s the reality with large public schools.

Have you already applied? You may be waitlisted, and if so, make sure you send in the response card saying you still want to be considered. My son’s SAT scores were about 30 pts higher than yours, and his GPA was 3.7. He is also OOS, was waitlisted due to the fact that he changed out of a major to undeclared during the admission process, but ultimately he was admitted. He is very happy there and doing well. Good luck!

Yes i have applied, we are supposed to hear back around Feb. 15. I know my SAT’s are low which is so nerve wracking but being wait listed would be good too! thank you so much! Hope your son is happy there!! :)

CAHATH, I feel your pain. My son, also from NJ, considers Clemson his #1 choice. His weighted GPA is 3.66 and his SAT is 1640 (all three tests). We knew it was a bit of a reach, but our fingers are still crossed. We hope that it helps that we made the trek down there for an official campus information session/tour, he participatd in quite a bit of volunteer activities, and that he is working as a bank teller part-time (with an Accounting Major as his goal). Hope you BOTH make it into your first choice schools !

Major: Nursing
EC’s/awards: JV XC freshman year, head of publicity, fundraising, house manager for 3 plays a year (11 so far), freelance writer for paper, 3 year member of latin club, National French Exam finalist 2 years, National Latin Exam finalist 3 years, National Honors Society member, International Thespian Society member

Nursing is tough since they only take 40 freshman a year! So just be ready to get accepted into your second major because of that fact. Your SAT score is definitely low but your GPA is about average. It’s not a given that you will be accepted but you got a shot.

Thanks! If I get into a major that isn’t nursing, i’m automatically rejecting it-- i’ve been accepted to 6 nursing schools so far and deferred from 4! I have enough to choose from, but really liked a lot about Clemson (I haven’t been there yet).

Just curious Pierre0913, are you official with the school or just someone who likes to be helpful to those of us who are going through this agonizing process?

haha no by no way am I official with the school. I just got a lot of help on this website when I was going through the college search process that I got hooked and I still check this site and help other people out with their questions
