Chances...

I'm applying to Harvard, UPenn, Brown, BC, Tufts, maybe MIT (to name a few) but in particular I'm going early action to Harvard. Any input is appreciated.

GPA: 4.26 weighted (they changed the GPA system my junior year...if we used our current system for my first two years I'd be around a 4.50)
Rank: 2/288
All honors classes through my freshman and sophomore years (no APs offered) and then:
Junior year: AP US History, AP CalcAB, AP Chem (max APs allowed)
Senior year: AP English, AP CalcBC, AP Physics, AP Spanish, AP US History
Straight A's up until last year, with a B+ in history :( and A's in everything else.

SAT I: 780m,680v,690w
SAT II: Math II - 790 || Physics - 780 || Chem - 750
AP Tests: Eng. Lang. - 5 || CalcAB - 4 || Chem - 4 || Euro - 3 (took sophomore year without taking AP Euro or even finishing my Honors Euro curriculum :( )

EC's:
Math Team (10,11,12 captain)
Yearbook (11,12 senior editor)
Newspaper (11,12 editor/writer)
Freshman/JV Soccer (9,10)
Spanish Club (9,10,11,12)
Volunteer at local food pantry (9,10,11,12 I coordinate the program now)
Freshman Orientation Program (11,12 also coordinate this program)
Week-long service trip to Virginia along with a few other service trips)

Work:
I've worked as a waiter in a dining room since my freshman year (14 yrs old) at about 12-15 hours a week during the school year and 15-20 during the summer, which is somewhere around 600-650 hours per year for last year and this year. I've also had a weekend job for a basketball league every winter for the last 5 or 6 years.

I've got excellence awards at my school each year and I received the Harvard Book award last year. I also have NHS and I've placed nationally in a Spanish exam.

I know a lot of my schools are reaches, but I figured I'd aim high. Again, thanks for any input.

Harvard EA: 15%

honestly, your stats are fine but i dont think you could get into Harvard b/c of your SAT score.....its a great score nonetheless but i dont think it is harvard level...but if you really want to go there you should apply b/c you never know....good luck

I think that you will have a great chance at Harvard. Don't listen to anyone especially words of discouragement. You will never know until you apply right?. I think that your GPA, rank, and SATs grades are in a good standing right now . As for all other school you listed I think you will get into all of them. Good Luck!!!.

A 1460 will keep her out??? Yea it may not be 1600, but they will not turn someone away due to a 1460!

but her verbal is lower than the bottom 25% percentile (700)...

Thanks for the input...and I took the SATs again a week ago, and I think the scores are coming in this Friday. I'm hoping to break 700 on verbal and writing, but there was a killer section on Martin Luther King in the verbal section that I might not have done to well on.

Oh well...great community you guys have here, wish I had discovered it a little earlier. Again, thanks for your opinions.

Might try Duke as a reach and look at Colby or Holy Cross as match/safeties. Holy Cross is a Jesuit school like Georgetown and offers a great liberal arts education with many service programs including Jesuit volunteer program. Like Gtown, HC recruits diverse student body.

raise your verbal to at least a 720 for better chances.

if you get above 700 in CR or W, then you will be just as competetive as most other applicants
