chances?

Hello, i am currently a Junior in high school.

Here is my profile:

I transferred to a different school this year. I currently go to a private school that does not offer any ap or honor classes. It’s a Jewish high school, and its one of the best private schools in my state. I am also currently taking 7 Jewish classes, and i have a 4.00. The grading system at my school is different from my old school. A 4.00 is 100, and 3.9 is 99-98 percent. At my old school anything above a 90 was considered a 4.00. It is harder to get good grades at my school. My school does not offer AP or IB classes.

Grades:

I am taking the SATS this year and i hoping to get a 2200 or above.
I am taking the SAT II subject tests in Hebrew and World History and I am hoping to do very well on both of them, since I am fluent in Hebrew and history is my favorite subject.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are for
Upenn.

Jewish?

Welcome to Penn :-D

jewniversity of pennsylasia..

dw - that's funny in a warped kind of way.

Seriously, though, are Jewish students seen as an overrepresented minority who have to do even better to get admitted?

How would the admcoms know if you're Jewish? The application doesn't ask for religion (if I recall correctly).

not many schools offer hebrew....so an SAT II is telling

lol sorry collegecountdown if it was offensive in any way.. but i got it from the wikipedia article about penn..

Well, in the case of someone who went to a Jewish day school, it's pretty obvious. Also, many people have extracurriculars relating to their youth groups, and last names/geographical locations can be a strong indication. You are right, they don't ask for this info, but there can be subtle ways to shift the emphasis of a class, looking for more diverse representation.

BTW, I am totally AGAINST quotas of any kind when it comes to overrepresented minorities - there have been articles about the difficulty top Asian students face, too, and it just isn't fair, IMO. I do support encouraging the candidacies of underrepresented minorities, however. I'm sure there are those who feel that you can't have it both ways.

dw - I am not offended, especially since we are both members of the groups being poked fun of in that description!!

so will it be easier for me to get into upenn because i am jewish? I feel like Upenn is a great school but it is also a step down from Harvard, Princeton and Yale, but i dunno. It has a great Jewish which is great. I hope i get in!!! Should i apply ed to upenn?

harvard is like the 14th or so best uni the country. but yeah, yale is nice. we're about on par with princeton, stanford, duke. mit is what it is. But rankings arent everything. But seriously, harvard has the name, but other than that, the quality of the education can't quite match penn, yale, stanford, vanderbilt, cornell, etc. even pton

and it wont be EASIER for u to get in b/c you're jewish. it may or may not be harder, but it absolutely wont make getting in easier

They can tell if you're Jewish on your application. Whether its your surname or that you can speak Hebrew, it's easy to spot a Jewish person. They will not officially consider it (obviously) but I'm sure it plays a subconscious role or has a shady quota...

SAT College Board demographic question refers to religion. I stupidly answered it - they get you when you are unsuspecting and others are not around to advise you not to answer. Not only that, but colleges know which school you put first for score report. I've heard that if it's not alphabetical, then they think they know what is your first choice.

The sad thing is, I don't think I'm being too paranoid here.
