Chances???

Can you give me my chances for Georgetown, William & Mary, Emory, University of Virginia, Lehigh, and University of Southern California

I am a Middle-Eastern girl
Senior (graduating in 2012).

I have taken all honors classes my whole high school career.
Freshman:
Honors Spanish 2: B+
Honors Geometry: A-
Honors Global History: A
Honors English: A-
Honors Biology: A-

Sophomore:
Honors Spanish 3: A-
Honors Trigonometry: B+
Honors World History: A
Honors English: A
Honors Chemistry: A
took the AP World History Exam without taking the class and got a 4

Junior:
Pre-AP Spanish: B+
Honors Pre-Calc/AP AB: B+
AP US History: A
AP Biology: A
Honors English: A/A-
I think I got a 5 on the US exam and a 4 on the Biology exam

SATs:
2080: 730 math, 690 writing, 660 critical reading (going to retake so I can get a 700).
SATiis: US:780, Bio:?? Math II: ??

Classes for next year:
AP Spanish
AP Calc BC
Public Affairs/ Economics (taken in conjunction with major research university, and highest class you can take)
AP English
Regents Physics (figured I would balance my schedule a little bit).

Our school is currently totally changing the way that they calculate GPA so I don't exactly know what it will be but my average is somewhere around a 92%

Extracurriculars:
Model UN: 4 years, club Vice President, chaired one of the largest student run conferences in the country for 3 years, won 2 out of committee awards
Yearbook: 3 years, 2 years editorial
Dance: 5 days a week, soloist, ballet modern jazz
SHS: member 2 years
Volunteer Hours: 65+ at local hospital, 170+ for a local summer camp with kids with cancer

oh and also chance me for NYU

bump bump.

Those are all reaches.

you could use [CollegeView - College Finder & Recruiting Service](http://www.collegeview.com)
then type up the school you want
from there, click school facts –> test scores
it’ll show a chart of the avg Low/Med/High SAT/ACT scores that most students get in that college.

If you fit in that range you’ll most likely be able to get in.
And with the fact that you do alot of extra curricular activities, only insures your chances have increased

I knew that most of those schools were reaches or high targets, but I figured that Lehigh and NYU were targets because of how rigorous my schedule is, the fact that I come from a competitive well-known high school, and that my SAT scores were in a lot of their ranges. But maybe I am wrong. Thanks for all your help!

Also, if I plan on increasing my SAT scores at least 100 points, and working really hard my senior year, do you think I could get into some of those reach schools or is all hope lost?

Do you live in Virginia? If so UVA and William and Mary become targets. NYU you might have a low target maybe for Leigh too. The rest I’d say are reaches.

No stewta4 I live in New York. While my first choice is Georgetown and a good family friend of ours is an alumni that is going to write me a letter of recommendation, do you think I should just pass on Georgetown, and apply ED to William and Mary or Emory?

It’s hard to say. If you absolutely love Georgetown then I would apply ED because even though your chance may not be favorable, you still have somewhat of a chance, although you would stand a better chance ED at William and Mary or Emory.

The issue is that Georgetown is EA and not ED. Applying EA really does not improve your chances, and from what I heard, the majority of people that they accept EA are either athletes, legacies, or overly qualified people. =/

bump bump bump

i would really like to hear some more people’s opinions on how to improve my chances! I will chance you back I promise!

Help me out

You should be solid for Lehigh…I’m not too sure of the others…none of them are completely out of question though. Which school in NYU did you want to apply too - that makes a difference.

Thats a great question. I am torn between Stern, CAS, and Gallatin. If people want to chance me for those it would help a lot. I am torn between an econ or business major, and ultimately what I would like to do with my career is a mix between global development, business, and science so maybe I would do well at Gallatin too.

I’m not going to actually chance you, but if I had your resume and was considering NYU,

For CAS I’d be calm but not overly confident

Stern I’d be pretty worried

So interpret that as you wish.

how about Gallatin Tenors?

Oh so my school finally calculated my GPA on a 4.0. Its a 3.75 on a 4.0 scale so if that helps you out at all. I also figured it would help my self esteem a little bit if I posted all the schools I am considering, not just my top picks. So here it goes:

Providence
Northeastern
University of South Carolina (International Business)
Boston University
Rhodes
Bucknell
Wake Forest
NYU (chance for CAS, Stern, and Gallatin)
Lehigh
Georgetown
University of Southern California
Claremont McKenna College
University of Michigan (business)
Emory
UVA
William & Mary

Also my 3.75 is my GPA unweighted. My school doesn’t weight but if it did my GPA would be well over a 4 because of all the honors/AP classes my school offers. By the way my school only offers 8 APs, and by the end of my senior year I will have taken 6 of them (I forgot to include that I am taking Comparative Gov’t as an elective). PLEASE CHANCE ME I NEED ADVICE!!
