You've got a pretty good shot. Your test scores are above average for an instate applicant and your ECs seem to be pretty good. How's you rank? Your GPA and courselpad seem to be good enough, but they don't tell anything about how you compare to your peers. Anyway, I'd guess that you'll get in.

I am an African american senior in high school who has already applied and gotten accepted to the University of Virginia. I had a 4.07 weighted GPA and a 3.86 unweighted GPA. I was about 33 in a class of 563 students. Also, I took IB classes. I put on my application that I participated in such extracurricular activities such as Diversity Club, volunteering at the hospital and library, being a volunteer and intern for a human rights organization, and playing in orchestra at my school. I did not take the SAT, I took the ACT and am very ashamed to say that I only got a 27.
I am against affirmative action, but I heard that U.Va practices affirmative action. I never want to be accepted into something because of my race and feel really bad if this was the case. My question is: do you think I was accepted through affirmative action?

@frosty,Congratulations! I am sure that if you were accepted the Admissions Dept felt you would be successful. Were you in state or out of state?

@theman, I believe Dean J mentioned that a small group of applicants (Questbridge, I think) had been accepted already.

Hi,
I am an out of state senior in high school who applied to the University of Virginia. I would like to know some opinions on my chances of being accepted. Please be straight forward because I have realized that I do not have much of a chance. I have a 3.1 GPA. A 28 on the ACT’s. I have drastically increased the difficulty of my courses and improved my grades from freshmen to senior year. I take AP and honors classes. I do many extra-cirricular activities. However, what I think might give me a chance of being accepted is that I attended the University of Virginia in the summer of 2010. I took a half a course, a full course, and the full course’s corresponding lab and was there for six weeks. I received credit and a grade of a “B” in the full course and lab which were physics related (involving calculus). My two professors at the University of Virginia wrote good recommendations for me that I sent to all my schools. What do you guys think my chances are?
