Chances?

I'm a rising senior, and I'd like to know if I have the slightest chance of getting into Northwestern. If I have a shot, I may apply ED.
I'm planning on studying journalism, possibly with a double major or minor in political science

I'm a white female from Arkansas, and I go to a small charter school that has 6-12 grades; it's a harmony academy, if you're familiar with those. I'll be part of the school's fourth graduating class.
GPA: UW 3.8 W 4.25
Ranked 4/36

Senior classes:
AP English Lit
AP European History
AP Spanish Language
AP Physics C: Mechanics
Art
College Algebra
AP US Gov't and Politics
By the end of senior year, I'll have taken 10 AP courses.

ACT: 31
SAT: 2010, but I probably won't submit it because my SAT II scores were low

ECs:
-Mayor's Youth Council (9-10)
-Yearbook (article writing, editing) (11)
-Founded a mentoring program that matches a group of 6th grade girls with one or two high school girls, in order to ease the transition from elementary to middle school (11) I was very passionate about this, and put a lot of work into it; I think it may be the topic of one of my essays
-Unpaid internship with local Democratic Party from late September to Election Day; gained a lot of campaigning experience and had a leadership position on Election Day (11)
-National Honor Society (11-12)
-Science Quiz Bowl (12)

Volunteering:
Local library and science museum: 15 hrs
If I can consider my internship as volunteering (I did a lot of the same work as volunteers): 100 hrs
Mentoring: 50 hrs, with more next year
And I'll most likely get a lot of hours with NHS next year

Awards:
Principal's honor roll almost every semester
AP scholar

Recs:
Since my school is so small, I've had a few teachers for 2+ years and have a pretty good relationship with all of them. My English teacher for the last 4 years was promoted to assistant principal for next year, so I can get a good recommendation from her as well.

Essays:
I'm a fairly good writer, and I've already drafted one personal essay.

I'd really appreciate any feedback

Your testing is a bit weak, and you could try for maybe some try for some sports or music EC’s? other than that ur looking good

First of all, you can send your SAT score without sending your SAT II scores, and vice versa. Sorry if I’m wrong, but did you say you weren’t going to send your SAT score because if your SAT II scores?

Second, your test scores are pretty low compared to many applicants. Your scores are at about the 25th percentile. However, that means that one fourth of admitted students had the same test scores as you, so there’s still a decent chance you could get in. Your extracurriculars are very good, which helps. With an 18% acceptance rate this past year, it’s kind of a crap shoot, but you should definitely apply!

Thanks guys :)

The fact that you are from Arkansas will help!

I would think that your scores on your AP tests might help off set your ACT score if you got 4’s or 5’s. I can’t remember what the score requirements are for AP Scholar.

I got 4s and 5s in the subjects I’m planning on focusing on (english and history): AP Lang, AP world history, and AP US history. I didn’t do as well on bio and calculus…

My scores we around the same ballpark (2070/30) and I got in so you never know!

Thanks everyone :)

I’d say you have a really good chance. Good luck on your SATs, and just make sure your essay isn’t to racy. A kid with a 4.7 and stellar recommendations got rejected from all ivies because their essay was “too racy” apparently, according to our college counselor.

You should try to increase your GPA next year, and maybe try for some leadership positions in your clubs. And of course get your SAT up to about 2200+. But you have plenty of time :)

Thank you so much!! I’ve only taken 2 APs and 2 honors so far because our school only offers most for juniors and seniors… next year i’m going for a 4.7 (junior).
Anyways, best of luck! I expect great “Harvard-esque” things from you! haha
