Chances?

I'm a rising senior, and I'd like to know if I have the slightest chance of getting into Wesleyan. If I have a shot, I may apply ED.
I'm planning on studying journalism, possibly with a double major or minor in political science

I'm a white female from Arkansas, and I go to a small charter school that has 6-12 grades; it's a harmony academy, if you're familiar with those. I'll be part of the school's fourth graduating class.
GPA: UW 3.8 W 4.25
Ranked 4/36

Senior classes:
AP English Lit
AP European History
AP Spanish Language
AP Physics C: Mechanics
Art
College Algebra
AP US Gov't and Politics
By the end of senior year, I'll have taken 10 AP courses.

ACT: 31
SAT: 2010, but I probably won't submit it because my SAT II scores were low

ECs:
-Mayor's Youth Council (9-10)
-Yearbook (article writing, editing) (11)
-Founded a mentoring program that matches a group of 6th grade girls with one or two high school girls, in order to ease the transition from elementary to middle school (11) I was very passionate about this, and put a lot of work into it; I think it may be the topic of one of my essays
-Unpaid internship with local Democratic Party from late September to Election Day; gained a lot of campaigning experience and had a leadership position on Election Day (11)
-National Honor Society (11-12)
-Science Quiz Bowl (12)

Volunteering:
Local library and science museum: 15 hrs
If I can consider my internship as volunteering (I did a lot of the same work as volunteers): 100 hrs
Mentoring: 50 hrs, with more next year
And I'll most likely get a lot of hours with NHS next year

Awards:
Principal's honor roll almost every semester
AP scholar

Recs:
Since my school is so small, I've had a few teachers for 2+ years and have a pretty good relationship with all of them. My English teacher for the last 4 years was promoted to assistant principal for next year, so I can get a good recommendation from her as well.

Essays:
I'm a fairly good writer, and I've already drafted one personal essay.

I'd really appreciate any feedback

Help me out here–you say that you plan on studying journalism at Wesleyan. There is no such major there, so are you thinking of creating a special major in that area? I wonder if you are actually thinking about Ohio Wesleyan University, which does have a very good program in journalism? This thread is for Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

Sorry, I forgot to change that…I made this post to get chances for a few other universities. At Wesleyan, I would most likely major in College of Letters.

So for Wesleyan as a prospective COL major, then, your ACT score is just below the average for admitted students (Wes average is 32). Having taken 10 APs certainly is testimony to your taking a challenging curriculum, which is what they seek first and foremost. A possible question is why you are taking Algebra–but I am assuming that you must have taken Pre-Calculus and Calculus already? One factor in your favor is that you come from Arkansas. Again I think that applying Early Decision–that is, IF Wesleyan is your clear first choice–would be your best bet. Of course, I would give the same advice–to go ED if a certain college is your first choice–for most other very selective colleges. But if you do not have a clear first choice. if I were you I would hold back and apply RD to your list. Since it is still only July, are you planning on retaking the SATs and ACT in the fall? Getting your scores a bit higher–like at least a 32 on the ACT with Writing–and being from Arkansas would open a lot of possibilities for you. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your reply
To answer your question, I took AP Calculus AB last year, and my school doesn’t offer any math beyond that. And I definitely plan on retaking the ACT in the fall, after some serious studying.
