Chances?

Hello I am an out of state student that will be applying to Berkley for the class of 2016. I was wondering what my chances are with my stats.
SAT: (770,780,780): 2330
GPA(UW): 3.82
Extracurriculars: Very good
Volunteering: Over 150 hours tutoring underprivileged children

You will almost certainly get in. Don’t worry.

you’re in.

Cool, thanks guys. It just confuses me a lot because all the people at my school say that Berkeley is incredibly hard to get into, on the level of Cornell and UChicago. But it seems from what I’ve read online that state schools, even elite ones like Berkeley, mostly care about SAT and GPA. Thanks for the reassurance though. It seems there is a good chance that I will end up at Berkeley next year.

Would you expound on your ECs? I do agree that SAT/GPA is far more important than EC for Berkeley but saying it’s ‘very good’ seems inadequate in the context of a chances thread.

For the same reason, just how many AP/Honor courses did you take?

Unless that number is like 0, I think you’re in.

I took AP Chem, AP Calc BC, AP US History, and AP Economics this past year. I will be taking AP Physics, AP Stat senior year. I don’t know any of my scores yet because they have not arrived in the mail yet.
As for extracurriculars I am captain and 3 time MVP of the soccer team, am president on school’s student board, have been on mock trial for 4 years, and have played major roles in several clubs such as robotics, cooking, and various other ones.
One thing that sort of annoys me right now is how late Berkley comes out with its application. I am starting on my college essays right now and I was wondering if the two essay topics are going to be the same as the 2011 ones [University of California - Personal statement](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/how-to-apply/personal-statement/index.html)
Anyway thanks for the encouraging advice so far and if anybody could get back to me on whether or not the essay topics will be the same for this coming year that would be great.

lol, I took NO APs (didn’t know our school had them; I went to a Canadian Public School) and I got in

But to anyone reading this, don’t think taking no APs is in any way justifiable. Our school had no AP CLASSES, so its existence was basically unknown among 98% of the student population. When I found out that our school offered the exams, it was too late lol.

Well the application is monitored by the UC system so it’s not Berkeley’s fault this time ha :P! I think the prompt will probably be similar since they have been using it for quite awhile (by that I mean this year and last year :P)!

If anything changes, it’ll probably be the second prompt, but I think the first is already good :p!

Good luck :D!
