Hello Austin - people get discouraged on here when no one responds to them so I will give you my two cents…

I hate the “chancing” thing. Unless a person has some first hand knowledge of what admissions people are looking at and discussing behind closed doors, they are only offering best guesses. Since I am not in admissions, I only have my best guess…

My daughter will be a Sophomore at UR this year. My knowledge is only from the process we went through a year and a half ago. Others here have difference experience and can offer different perspectives. Don’t let anyone dash your dreams or build up your hopes unless they have some reliable basis for their input. Ok - my disclaimers are in.

I think your statistics warrant consideration from Admissions. While your GPA may be a bit low, Admissions knows how the “Competitive High School” factors in so the actual number may not be a fair comparison. Your scores, your course load, your sports all help you.

I have told everyone here this and I think it is very true…your essay is your opportunity to sell yourself. Your best opportunity to dazzle them with your brilliance. Most likely your only opportunity to make a first impression. Everything else they know about you is just a bunch of numbers. They need to believe that UR needs to have Austin on campus. Put a lot of thought in to your essay. Have your GC read it. Don’t let anyone change your thoughts and intent. The words must be yours but others may have some constructive criticism.

Good luck! My daughter loves UR, the staff, the profs and the students.
