I know my stats are laughable at best, but I just want to see. I'm aware that UChicago is a reach school for me, but I'm wondering how much of a reach and what I really need to improve, etc.

I'm really passionate about soccer and sports in general hoping to do premed (I haven't really come to a conclusion on the major probably neuroscience , kinesiology, or something along those lines. I want to specialize in sports medicine probably as a physical therapist or something along those lines)

I’m no expert, but I would definitely work on my SAT scores if I were you. 1700 is a rather low score for U Chicago; aim for above 2000. Also, try and raise your GPA quite a bit.

U Chicago’s admissions are based primarily on scores–from what I understand, at least–so, unless you are able to raise your scores quite a bit (which is TOTALLY possible if you study your hardest), the chances of acceptance here are very, very slim.

Your GPA and SAT/ACT scores are low… Try to get a 30+ and 2000+, so you can be a competitive canidate. Your EC look good though. Try to get an interview, and visit the campus so UChicago knows your serious. UChicago also puts a major emphasis on essay, so begin working very hard on it, and dont put it off until the last moment. GOOD LUCK!

Loyola University Chicago( safety )
University of Wisconsin - Madison( match )
Michigan State University( safety )
University of Michigan( low reach )
Colgate University( match )
Marquette University( safety )
University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign( safety )
College of the Holy Cross( low reach )

It’s true that your stats are low, and perhaps fatally low. The advice above is good, for what it’s worth (though not really the advice contained in the second post in this thread – UChicago reviews applications holistically and in no way bases its admissions primarily on statistics).

Though Chicago is a high reach for you, I’d like you to consider that it might not matter so much. UChicago is a liberal arts school, meaning that it doesn’t have preprofessional concentrations such as sports medicine and physical therapy.

Thanks so much for the input guys! Based on my stats are there any other schools I’m neglecting? Im open to both private and public schools, although I’d slightly prefer going to a bigger school over a smaller one. I’d also prefer being in a more urban setting versus cornfields in the middle of nowhere haha. Financial Aid / Scholarship is almost a necessity to me having one unemployed parent and the other making the yearly total of around $65,000. I could live without partying in college haha (I’m speaking to the womens soccer coaches at these schools to see if i can tryout as a walk on and if not I plan on joining any intramural / club teams)

You need to improve your test scores. Try to get better math score in the SAT. Would suggest more comm. service as a lot of colleges are taking a closer look at that part of their app. for merit aid. Just to clarify from post #3 if you are going into a physc. therapy direct admit program like Marquette none will be a safety. If you are giong to try the ph. therapy programs make sure you shadow or work at the office. Programs want this from their prospective students. University of Wisconsin - Madison will not be a match as it has gotten harder to get in. My S had higher stats (30 ACT) 3.85 GPA was waitlisted before he was accepted (we are hispanic). If you are OOS do not expect much fin. aid from state schools. Try to visit as many of the schools as possible (at least the ones you’re most interested in).

Ahh I see I see. After more indepth research into athletic training / physically therapy I"m leaning more towards a major in neuroscience & neurobiology. I know I don’t have to completely decide my major yet, but I’m almost certain whatever I do needs to fulfill the requirements for premed as I plan to continue on onto med school.

I had my visit at UChicago earlier today and it went great. I mean everything about the school was wonderful including the other kids on my tour haha . I plan on setting up an interview soon. They made it seem like they were way more focused on finding out more about the applicant rather than just by their scores and such so heavy emphasis was put on things like essays and visits and a little bit on the interviews.

I plan on retaking my SAT and ACT again in Oct (It’s hard because parents won’t pay for me to take the tests again so while I do have a job I haven’t really started yet so I can’t register for the tests ahead of time to start preparing but I’m not too worried about that) .

All in all I have a slightly good feeling about UChicago and I don’t really know why. If anything I feel like I should be focusing on other schools…but I want to give it a shot.

My senior schedule changed to this (as a result of a transfer):
AP BIOLOGY
AP EUROPEAN HISTORY
AP ENGLISH LITERATURE
PSYCHOLOGY
STATISTICS
