Chances!!

aight, so i sent in my app on 10/13 but they didn't receive everything until 11/14.
ACT 31
GPA 3.75uw
in-state, asian
editor on newspaper, varsity xc, in some clubs etc...

how much of a shot do i have a u of m?

I called admissions and they said that i probablly wouldn't hear from them for another 12 weeks.

i dunno, someone im my school w/a 30 ACT and a 3.5uw gpa got deferred and now i'm freaking out...

i also took ap psych, chem, bio & lang jr year, and am currently taking ap lit and calc sr year (does that make up for the gpa?)

DUDE! i just heard that they're taking down one their freshman dorms so they have to take 700 less applicants?

whered you hear this, i heard they are building a new freshman dorm and renovating another....whats ur source on that?

They're closing Mosher Jordan after this year for a major renovation and expansion. That's mostly a freshman dorm up on the hill which will cut 500 spots for the 2006 class.

i heard from a friend that goes to uofm. so what do you all think of my chances? 12 weeks is a long wait...

i'd say you have a very good chance.

bump. sorry, i'd like to hear from as many people as possible. =)

Looks like a strong profile for an in-state'er. EC's are a bit sparse--assuming you had good recs and essays. Which schools did you and your deferred friend apply to? That can make a difference. Did your friend have much going on other than a solid ACT? Have to look at the total picture.

First of all, 3.5 and 3.75 are quite different from an admissions standpoint at Michigan, so don't read too much into your friends' deferral.

It is true that Mosher Jordan will be offline next year, and that this has implications for the freshman class. However, they have not yet decided how much smaller the freshman class should be.

This is true, though: Even if they took no dorms down, even if targets for the Fall 2006 class were unchanged from Fall 2005, the freshman class would be smaller by 600 next year! Why? Because last year's class was unexpectedly huge, over 600 over target. Having done that two years in a row, Michigan is going to do everything in its power to NOT go over target this year.

Now, it's also the case that they might make the overall target somewhat smaller than last year, too. But those discussions are still taking place.

Because of two years of overages, Michigan has converted a lot of dorm space so it could probably accommodate a regular class of 5500 freshmen even with MoJo down. But I don't believe it wants to, at least not in this stage of planning. Right now they are admitting slowly enough that they don't have to know the absolute target.

thanks for clearing that up guys.
i'd still like to hear from other people about my chances though. =) thanks.

someone w/a 3.5gpa and 30 act got deferred? that's freaky, considering i got accepted w/a 3.4 gpa and 26 act but enough about me........

if u applied and gotten everything in a month earlier, u would've had a great shot, but since everything got in in nov. ur chances are much lower but i don't think low enough for u to be deferred

congrats on getting in!

yeah, the late date is killer. especially since i had my app in at the beginning of october but my teacher rec didnt get turned in until the mid of november. do you think i'm borderline though? cuz i heard that's the only thing that date completed would make a difference for...

bumpity bump...
