I love James Madison University and would love to attend.
Would applying early action help at all?

I would say take your SAT again and try to get about 200 more points and you will be in good shape. I know from last year for EA they deferred alot of people to RD but applying early won’t hurt.

I encourage you to:

1) contact your regional admissions counselor – JMU Admissions - Staff Bio – he will likely know the HS in your area and should be able to offer advice about how your scores and GPA relate to the course load and stats of admitted students from your school.

2) Look over the common data set from the most recent year posted… which is for the freshman class that entered in the fall of 2010 (fall 2011 has not been posted yet). <a href=“Institutional Research - JMU”>Institutional Research - JMU;

It has become increasingly difficult to be admitted to JMU over the past few years… for example in 2008 –

The average enrolled freshman HS GPA was a 3.7 with 44% at 3.75 or higher, 27% at 3.5 - 3.74, and 20% at 3.25 - 3.49. <a href=“Institutional Research - JMU”>Institutional Research - JMU;

In 2010:

The average enrolled student GPA was a 3.84 with 53% 3.75 or higher, 29% 27% at 3.5 - 3.74, and 14% at 3.25 - 3.49. (see link to 2010 common data above).

I believe that the stats for the class that entered in 2011 are higher.
