My UVA essays were the strongest part of my application

I think with the full IB diploma, and everything combined, he's in to UVA. I also think he would be accepted to William and Mary. Best of luck to you. Please post when you find out. It would be interesting to see how some of these "predictions" go.

atdiemokid..........................unbelieveable! I know that William and Mary looks at the total application and I'm sure your essay's and EC's were good too. See, this is what everyone means by random. I'm sure this is disappointing and hard to take right now. I speak for everyone on CC that is a student at William and Mary............we will ALL send you good vibes come regular decision time. Your post is appreciated. Best of luck to you. Keep your chin up. Your stats are awesome.

I was deferred by UVA. Both a surprise and expected. I knew around 20 people who applied from my school with 3.9's and above and virtually all of them were accepted. I hope William and Mary is a less reliant solely upon GPA....

GGGunit (ggggget your a** in the car) Thanks for posting. That's another thing that's very relevant..................how many students are applying from your high school and how you compare to them. I'm convinced that is why so many people from my high school that applied to JMU and TEch got waitlisted. Many qualified students..............it's just that they are very popular schools and they can only take so many students from a certain high school. Things will work out fine for you. You will hear good news in May, I'm sure.

I can tell you that W&M is not strickly GPA driven like UVA is. Doesn't mean you'll get in, but the rest of your application will definitely be looked at.

My friend got into UVA with a GPA similar to yours, an 1890 SAT, and poor extracurriculars. I don't think she had any leadership, and her essay topics weren't that original either (although I can't testify to the quality they were written in). We also live in Northern Virginia. Don't feel bad. I think admissions must be very random, and if it helps any I know someone with a similar GPA (and who is the editor of my school paper) who was actually rejected from UVA which shows that they are trying to defer applicants who have a realistic shot at acceptance.
