Looking to major in management. Noot appliyng for F Aid

decent EC, full list here : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=121115

i just have a hard time learning how you managed to get a 2100 and have a low gpa in school? i read your EC's and they are very good compared to the average students who apply to IU. I am sure you already know this but your GPA is the only thing thats gonna keep you back since big, public schools emphasize a lot on your school performace. Mayeb you should include a letter telling them what happened in your past 3 years and how you would change about your future academic performace if you do get in. Good luck!

Even though you have a 2.6, I definitely think you'll get in. Your SAT score is really good...and a ton higher than IU's average.

This goes beyond a low GPA and a good SAT. Those D's look bad and that failing grade is killer. At the very least, is there anything you can do to retake that course 2nd semester? If that's an option, you could let IU know what you plan to do before they make a decision. Be proactive and don't wait for the door to slam.

I made those 2 D up already last year and is planning to take the F this second semester. Do you know if the uni will look at the replaced grade or both grades?

EDIT: its funny how I could have gotten a C-D if I have taken my us history final but i chose not to do so becase i was planning to make it up anyways. I thought that my school would replace the lower grade with the higher one...sigh

do you think I should ask my us history to write a letter explaining about how i didn't take the final and thus failed?

thank you!

If you've already made up the D's and have plans to retake history, that's a good start. Have you spoken to a GC at your school about how to handle this situation with the colleges you're applying to? He/She might be able to advise you on the best way to go about this. Some type of written explanation should be given rather than having the schools make a decision without all the facts. Many college apps have a section asking for clarification of any issues which may have affected your academic performance. I don't recall IU's app asking for that. There's no point in going into why the grades were bad, unless there was a significant life event that pulled you off course. Rather, they should be made aware of your plans to retake the history course which also will bring up your GPA. Your strong SAT's are a life-saver. If it ends up that you're not accepted and are deferred, they'll probably be doing so only to review your senior year transcript. Make it happen...good luck!

I'm going to say that you'd probably get deferred, because your GPA is just too low, being .7 below the average GPA (3.3). Those D's and F's are killers. The admissions representative says he wants to see A's and B's, and maybe 1 or 2 C's. Then with a stern look, he said "No D's." And I can only imagine what an F would do.

You have to have a strong senior year GPA. That would bring your GPA up and make you a stronger candidate for admission. I don't think you are a bet for admission, because GPA is so important in admissions. And you're in the bottom 10%.

Thank you! Can I still accept offers from other colleges if I am deferred?

Oh Will te uni look at 9-12 academic gpa, 10-12 academic gpa or 9-12 overall gpa?

And about how high should my senior grades be?

thank you!

yes you can still apply and receive info from other colleges. They are now looking at your grades from 9-11 but if you continue working hard this year, send in your mid term grades to show that you're committed. your senior grades should be as high as it can be and in your case, you probably need an A average to bring up your gpa.

oh if its 9-12 i think i have a 2.82 gpa. would that be much of a help? in fact it would be around 3.0+ except i had a 2.0 in my first quarter in my last school (in malaysia) where i had to take 13 classes per quarter....

Sure. If you're accepted to other colleges either RD or EA, and don't want to wait for IU's decision if you're deferred, then choose one and go. ED (early decision) is the only binding type of admission.

Indiana doesn't look at freshman year grades. Most colleges don't look at freshman year grades, if that helps your GPA.

Can that be confirmed?

Well, that's what I was told from the Associate Director of Admissions, when he came to my school and told me to my face... lol.

can anyone assure if i still have any chance? i am getting sorta paranoid...

thanks..

i had pretty much the same **** as you (2.7 and 2030, no xc, no essay, no recs) and got in, so you should be good. iu isnt too hard
