Chances?

GPA: 3.897 uw (6th out of 45, a little skewed considering my previous HS, 9th and 10th grade, used a weighted GPA system for Pre-AP/Honors/AP classes. So basically I took a really hard course schedule and have a 4.1-4.2 weighted GPA but because my current school didn't have those classes they use an unweighted system and the classes are pretty easy so theres 2 people with 4.0's and 3 who have really only gotten 1 A-)

ACT: 30 composite (32 math)
SAT: 2000 (2030 superscored) 660 reading (both tests) 740 math (2nd test) 630 writing (1st test, 2nd was a 600)
AP Tests: US History (2 -.- I'm guessing I shouldn't even report this score, but is that right?) Will take Calculus AB and Literature & Composition this year
ECs:
-4 years varsity football
-2 years varsity soccer
-1 year varsity soccer
-2 years math club
-Nation Honors Society
-200ish Volunteer hours at 4-5 different organizations
-Job all throughout high school 10-20hrs/week (depending on sports and summer/school)

Awards:
-Some Oklahoma Regents Scholar Award
-Wallace Hansen Memorial Scholarship (a pretty prestigious scholarship at my school awarded to a student who excels in math and sciences and has a strong interest in the subjects)
-Homecoming Prince (I heard this is actually a pretty good award to put on an app, thoughts?)
-Scholar Athlete Award
-All League Honorable Mention (Defensive Line, is this important? To me it shows that I didn't just "participate" in football, but was actually an essential part of the team)

Thanks! Also I'll have 2 good rec's, and I'm pretty good at writing essays and stuff and expressing my desire to go to USC.

should get in, a bit reachy.

You are “6th out of 45”. Does that mean there are only 45 kids in your class?

Wasn’t clear about your soccer participation 2 years varsity, 1 year varsity? Was that 1 year JV? If so, just list it as 3 years soccer.

I would not list homecoming prince. It really does nothing to enhance your resume, imo, and can come off a little superficial (even though you are probably not). Your football EC is impressive.

I’d guage your chances of acceptance at around 45%. Pretty fair, but not a slam dunk. Maybe like third down and 4…

Low reach, standardized test scores are a bit low for it to be an ez /in.

Yes, 6 out of 45, only 45 kids in my class (I go to a small private school in Tacoma.)

And I’m just going to play soccer during my senior year, I haven’t played during fresh/soph/jr years. I guess I’m a pretty good athlete and they need a goalie so I decided to come out.

And thanks to all who replied! I’ve just guessed I’m about a 50/50 chance, but it is my dream school so yeah…

Any other opinions on listing football awards/homecoming prince? I feel like there are arguments to both sides. Yes the homecoming prince is a little superficial, but at the same time it may help differentiate me. Plus I’d like to apply to Viterbi and their essay this year is “Do you embrace the sterotype that engineers are nerds?” I guess homecoming prince shows that I’m social? Shoot I don’t know! Haha

Your GPA is a bit above the average for admitted freshman last year but your SAT and ACTs are at or a hair below the 25th%-tile for standardized test scores. Your math score, while strong, is about the mid-point for the entire USC freshman class; I assume that the average Viterbi Engineer has an even higher average math score.

You’ve got some nice awards and ECs. The football award is very good but unless Lane Kiffin is recruiting you I don’t think it’ll have a huge impact. I’m still confused about how many seasons you’ve played soccer. Your community service is also a plus. As for Homecoming Prince, I wouldn’t emphasize it or ignore it. Most people view that “award” as little more than a popularity contest; I think it’s a good idea to mention it in the “nerd essay” but I certainly wouldn’t dwell on it.

With a <24% admit rate and likely increase in applications this year due to the common app I think you should view SC as a reach.
