Applying to CSOM

SATs: Just above the 25th%-tile (with CR is well below)
GPA: ~3.8 UW? At or maybe slightly above the overall BC average.
Recs: “pretty good” and “probably pretty good”
ECs:Only long term commitment football and yearbook. Minimal Community service

Your GPA is in range and your Aunt’s BC volunteering may have some impact though I suspect it’s pretty minimal. Your SATs are a big hurdle. CSOM is rumored to have a tougher admit standard than the general BC population and I suspect that the average CSOMer had a 700+ Math SAT. A 570 CR also raises concerns about your ability to handle the reading workload though that is somewhat offset by the National English Honor Society Award.

Your essays need to be spectacular and hopefully your recommendations are beyond “probably pretty good”.

To me BC CSOM is a reach.

bump!!!

The input that vinceh provided you was on the money.

Look at the BC factbook, around pg 31:
http://www.bc.edu/content/dam/files/publications/factbook/pdf/10_11/10-11_fact_book.pdf
You’ll see profile ranges for admitted students.

No one is telling you to not apply, but rather to be realistic and to understand the elements that make it a reach school.

As for your Aunt calling and writing a letter to BC, I talked to an admissions counselor once who said letters like that can often hurt more than they can help. Perhaps not universally true, but be careful.
