I would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on my admissions chances.

GPA: 3.91 uw
ACT: 33 (36 on both Reading and English, 30 Math, 28 Science)

6 APs are offered at my high school. I will have taken 5 (English and Calculus conflicted), and all honors available.

I am applying RD as an English major.

Class rank: about top 15%

Extra-curriculars:
I transfered, so not many of the same ECs were offered. I played viola for all 4 years, though. (11 ECs total, most for 2 years each because of transfer).

Volunteering:
Only 48 hours.

I have several academic and extracurricular awards. Maybe 15 in total.

I am worried about:
getting a B- (85%) first semester of honors chemistry sophmore year, but raised it to an A- second semester (93%). I am now taking AP Chemistry and have a decent grade.

if you would like some peer assesment here goes (although i don't know how useful this is)
-scores i think your fine - your above jhu's average score- 29 on princetonreview and collegebaord ( last years admissions was a lenient year, but you're still most definitely fine there at a 33)
-essays- i'm assuming they're are pretty good and unique since you are declaring an englsih major
-you're rank is probably average(or a little above)- your GPA above average 4 sho
-volunteering- not so hot, i wouldn't list them unless that 48 hrs was at one place- just list you 11 EC's that should fill up enough space
-please don't worry about the chemistry- your an english major for god's sake !- my freshman year left bigger scars on me and i sill think i have a shot
-chances- good, better if you can really prove the desire for that englsih major on the essays- maybe take the lit. sat II- but you really don't have time though

Is there anyway to let the johns hopkins people know how interested I am in the school? Is it possible to write a letter? jhu is quickly becoming my favorite (even though I'm not a bme major), and I really want them to know that.

Also, if I have an OK mid-year report but not stellar(like all As except 2 Bs in AP chem and AP calc), how much will that effect my chances?

Thanks for all the help, and congratulations to you successful EDers. I would be a complete dream to see you there next year.

I think it also depends on how involved you are in your ECs.

You can have an interview and go for a visit, if you haven't already done so. I don't think you should write a letter because I don't know if they'll actually read it and take it into consideration.

Also, all A's except for two B's in two AP classes is quite stellar.
