Chances?

I applied to the UW as a freshman.... Just wondering if I have a decent/good shot.

3.8 GPA with AP's (AP Euro, AP US, AP Gov, AP Stats, Ap Lang) and some honors classes.
Tons of EC's- Job since 10th grade, volunteer at hospital, captain of JV basketball, (these were all around the same time) and national honor society.
1780 SAT, 10 on my essays.
I am pretty confident in my essays- i wrote about when my mom died and how i overcame and tried harder than ever in school and all around life. I also wrote about racial slurs that were going on in a class one day and how I tried to resolve all of them because I didn't like the negativity that was happening between peers.

UW is my number one pick. So i can only pray!

Especially since they are accepting a lot more instate applicants this year :)

I don’t know a whole lot about what it takes to get in, but I have similar stats to you and I applied as a freshman as well. I REALLY want to go there!! Fingers crossed for both of us!!! :)

I would have chosen something else to write about for your essay. Essays about a person’s passions are a thousand times more interesting/tasteful than a death story. You will remember the guy who wrote about shaking hands with a dolphin, but you won’t (and won’t want to) remember the story about the guy who “overcame” the death of his mother.

I think you have a good chance. GPA is solid, UW doesn’t put too much weight on SAT’s. If your essay is really well written, then that’s good.

@mtollen94: where else did you apply?

Seattle U, SPU, Portland sate, univer of Portland, asu, WSU, Gonzaga. I’ve gotten into all f them

It’s nice to see someone chanced with very similar stats! I applied as well with a 3.8 GPA, APs, 1780 on my SAT, and a 10 essay. Crazy! Hope we both get accepted :)
