I'd venture to say you have a pretty good shot. Your test scores/GPA/Courseload are all 5's. Regarding extracurriculars, I don't really see anything that stands out or is done on the national level, so that may be a weakness. So, ultimately, it is going to come down to how wel your essays and teacher reccomendations are. If both are relatively unique/pretty good, I see you as being accepted.

Anybody else?

how many ppl in your class?

There are about 450 in my class. It is a very uncompetitive public school with a large URM.

Anybody else? Anybody know about my chances at a scholarship(non-athletic)?

I think u have a really great shot- your stats are outstanding. Out of curiosity, where in S. FL are u from? Im from the area as well

I'm from Naples, in Southwest Florida. Where are you originally from in sfl?

They give like 20 scholarships a year to people not in the Carolinas

Don't expect one

Only 20? At a school as competitive as Duke? Well, screw the idea of getting in on a full ride!

... practically noone gets a full ride to duke on academics...

Are you kidding?

like was said above, its about 20 / year

Do most people get 20k a year at Duke? Does anyone get nothing?

Isn't Duek supposed to be need-blind? I thought it was, or am I mistaken...

hey Im from the Ft. Lauderdale area - this is the situation with financial aid - its different from merit aid (which as ppl have already said, theres only about 20 of them and they're all full-tuition, not full-ride - doesnt include room, board, etc). Financial aid is based on 100% of demonstrated need but THEY calculate how much you need and that figure might not match your expectations. Come to think of it, out of all the friends that I know, it hardly ever does, including my situation. Anyways, financial aid is based purely on your financial situation and not on merit. So the poorer you are, the more $ you will get in that respect

BTW, I was surprised by this figure myself but only 40-50% or so of the student body is on financial aid. That means the majority can afford, or at least the fin aid office thinks they can afford to pay full sticker price

i'm a newbie but i've been reading the board for months. i wanted to know honestly how my chances stood for RD at duke. i'm applying everywhere like crazy but i'm having trouble finding anything to fit me well.

feel free to be honest about duke. i'm a west gal who's looking for some warm weather and a prestigious campus. take your shots.

btw... sorry i forgot, i'm the youth rep on my local neighborhood council as well as the youth rep for LA city council. i represent the larget district in LA, over 450,000 kids. yeah i know, how could i forget?

i'm getting naseous looking at the other people's scores. i tried getting higher scores buy im hypoglycemic and i've had a lot of bad experiences w/stand testing. i've passed out once during the sat. i have had on two occasions proctors yelling at me to eat and demand i get special attention (b/c i need to eat every 2 hours and the sats are 3-4 horus so i get dizzy and can't focus). i once had a teacher threaten to take away my test b/c time was up, but she didn't announce time was up. i wasn't the only one but it was still dramatizing. bottom line: i've had dramatzing experiences taking the sat tests. should i write about it?
